Before David became a mighty king, he was a
shepherd. He took care of sheep and protected
them from wolves and scary things. As he watched
his sheep, he talked to God. There were lots of
things to talk to God about. And God always heard
David. Sometimes David would take his staff and
lean on it, close his eyes and talk to God. Just like a
friend.

One time, while David was tending his sheep, a
fierce, ferocious lion came out of the bushes and
wanted to hurt David and his sheep. Do you think
David talked to God? Of course! And God protected
them.
When David faced the mighty giant Goliath, he
prayed and talked to God. David defeated that
mighty giant! We can be like David too. We can talk
to God about what's important to us and about the
things we are afraid of. We can talk to God just like
a friend.
