Construction Standard CS2:2012 –
Steel Reinforcing Bars for the Reinforcement of Concrete
The Standing Committee on Concrete Technology (SCCT) has recently
issued a Technical Note No. 3 on the captioned Construction Standard CS2:2012 with
regard to the nitrogen contents and nitrogen binding elements in steel reinforcing bars.
Note b of Table 4 of CS2:2012 permits a higher nitrogen content in chemical
composition of steel reinforcing bars if it can be demonstrated that there are sufficient
quantities of nitrogen binding elements to combine with the nitrogen. In this
connection, SCCT Technical Note No. 3 provides guidance on the demonstration of
the sufficiency of nitrogen binding elements in steel reinforcing bars. Details of the
