HOW DO WE PRAY WITH SACRED SCRIPTURE?
Spiritual reading of Sacred Scripture, especially the Gospels, is an important form of meditation. This spiritual
reading is traditionally called lectio divina or divine reading. Lectio divina is prayer over the Scriptures.
2- 951
1.
The first element of this type of prayer is reading (lectio): you take a short passage from the Bible, preferably a Gospel passage and read it carefully, perhaps three or more times. Let it really soak
in.
2.
The second element is mediation (meditatio). By
using your imagination enter into the Biblical scene
in order to "see" the setting, the people, and the
unfolding action. It is through this mediation that
you encounter the text and discover its meaning for
your life.
3.
The next element is prayer (oratio) or your personal response to the text: asking for graces, offering
praise or thanksgiving, seeking healing or forgiveness. In this prayerful engagement with the
text, you open yourself up to the possibility of
contemplation.
4.
Contemplation (contemplatio) is a gaze turned toward Christ and the things of God. By God's action
of grace, you may be raised above meditation to a
state of seeing or experiencing the text as mystery
and reality. In contemplation, you come into an
experiential contact with the One behind and
beyond the text.

Mary was the holiest of
God’s creatures and is the
perfect example of this
dynamic at work. We see
her holiness very clearly in
the Annunciation, the beginning of her nine months
of waiting for Jesus to appear at His birth. She didn’t
expect to conceive Him. She didn’t expect an angel
to appear to her. But in humility, she kept
herself
open to God’s will. And the whole human race gained a
Savior because of her “Yes.”
Humility is the first step of the Christian life, and it’s the
virtue that each one of us as Christians needs to start
Advent with. Where is there pride in my life? What am I
hesitant to confess before God? What area of my life do
I want God to stay out of?
As we journey through this season of Advent, ask Jesus to help you grow in humility. Ask Him to make you
more like His Mother. And ask Him to help you to stay
awake to His presence in your life: to look for Him in
ways and at times you don’t expect.

“Women Of Faith” Morning of Prayer
“Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning” will
be held on Saturday, December 10, 9:30 am –
1:00 pm, at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston
Post Road East, Marlborough. Presenter: Barbara A. Mullen, CSJ, is Mission Advancement and
On-Going Formation Director for her Province,
the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry. The parable of the wise and foolish virgins resonates
with every woman who knows the importance
of being prepared for the gifts and challenges
that life brings our way. Keeping the Advent
‘lamp of one’s heart’—the flame of God flickering within us—trimmed and burning is a sign of
welcome for entering more deeply into the heart
of our loving God. Matthew 25: 1-13 invites us
to consider an answer to the question: Are you
ready? Our gathering will begin with “coffee
and” followed by a brief presentation, prayer,
personal reflection, and discussion. A registration fee of $10.00 is paid at the door. Preregistration is required by December 5,
2016. To pre-register, please contact Sr. Yvette
Bellerose at [email protected], 774239-3372 or Ann Williams at
[email protected], 508-481-8176.

Religion [cannot] be relegated to the inner sanctum of personal life, without influence on societal and national
life.
-Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 183.
If religious liberty is not respected, all people suffer and are deprived of the essential contribution to the common good,
be it in education, health care, feeding the hungry, civil rights, and social services that the Church and other people of
faith make every day, both here at home and overseas. USCCB

Tambien necesitamos
