Co-Founder Dale Beatty presents the American Flag to Veteran Benjamin Wardrip
Disabled U.S. Army Veteran Benjamin Wardrip will have an easier time getting
around his house, thanks to donors and volunteers.
Benjamin, honorably discharged from the Army as an E-5 Sergeant in 2010 after
sustaining injuries in an IED explosion, suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), chronic migraines and both lower and upper
back injuries.
Volunteers from HEXPOL Compounding Inc. helped install an outdoor ramp,
railings on the porch, various grab bars throughout the home and a railing along
the staircase to the home’s second story. Red Rooster Contractors, LLC, assisted
with the project.
Recent Corporate Support
William Carlin and family surrounded by AXA Cares
volunteers after completion of a needed ramp.
The employees of Mack Molding Company, Statesville, NC
raised $10,000 to support the mission of Purple Heart Homes.
“This year’s event served a separate purpose of reminding us
all that we are connected to the veterans who serve us, and
that we owe them a debt of gratitude. We salute Purple Heart
Homes in their efforts to provide for those who sacrificed for
our freedoms, and we are honored to help with our support.”
Purple Heart Homes Chapters
Volunteers from Red Classic also rolled up their
sleeves to work with us on a project for a Service
Connected Disabled Veteran.
Special thanks to Red Classic, a transportation and
maintenance subsidiary of Coca-Cola Bottling Co.,
for the donation of this beautiful Ford F-250 diesel
work truck.
Have you wondered how you can help Veterans in your community? Think about forming a local Purple Heart Homes Chapter.
Chapters focus on mostly VAIP projects, where repairs and renovations are made to homes already owned by Disabled Veterans. The
common thread across all projects is to improve safety and accessibility for the Veteran and make life easier for the Caregivers and
family.
The Southwestern New York chapter is making a bathroom accessible for a Korean War Veteran. The Golden Corner Chapter just
completed a ramp project and a stair project. The Colorado Front Range
Chapter is finishing up a project for a WWII Veteran making his home safe
and accessible for use with his walker. So far this year 18 Chapter projects
have been completed and 15 more are in the works.
The Purple Heart Homes Chapter Program was started in 2015, and we
already have 9 chapters. We are actively looking for individuals who are
interested in helping to get a chapter started in their area. All it takes is a
few like-minded individuals to come together and form a volunteer board of
directors.
Currently we are working with local groups to form chapters in Northeastern
Ohio, Pittsburgh PA, Nashville TN and Wilmington NC.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about forming
a Purple Heart Homes Chapter in your area, contact Dale Beatty dbeatty@
phhusa.org or Cheryl Campbell [email protected] to get started.

Greetings. We hope this edition
of our newsletter finds you well.
The third quarter has been busy
with new chapters forming and
project number 140 completed.
The support of our donors and project supporters is continually increasing our
capacity and geographical footprint. Thank
YOU for being a part of that success!
August brought unprecedented and devastating floods to Louisiana and other parts of
the south east coast. We implore everyone to
keep our fellow Americans who have been
affected by the floodwaters in your thoughts
and prayers. As National Guardsmen, we
deployed after Hurricanes Fran and Floyd
in our own state of North Carolina. We
participated first hand in rescue and recovery operations for two weeks, and we know
the devastation natural disasters visit upon
families and communities. Just imagine
losing everything you own and then waiting
months to rebuild your life. But, in every
tragedy we can always find inspiration and
hope when individuals of all backgrounds
come together to overcome adversity.
You may already know that Purple Heart
Homes is a National Partner of The Home
Depot Foundation, and we were filled with
pride when seeing The Home Depot
employees IMMEDIATELY step up to the
plate to bring much needed relief supplies to
many communities that were affected by the
August floods. Aside from that, Team Depot,
The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer
force, deployed people, resources and support to the area to provided immediate relief
to many of those who were displaced by
the floodwaters. They also announced this
month that they are growing their commitment to Veterans and will invest a
quarter of a billion dollars in veteran-related causes by 2020. Here at Purple
Heart Homes we are proud to commend
the work that The Home Depot does for
Veterans and the culture that The Home
Depot has created among their employees to step up!
As we go into the fourth quarter, we
will finish a few more projects and begin our annual giving season campaign.
Thank you to everyone who makes our
work possible!

“I’m in a wheelchair most
of the time because it’s hard
for me to walk, so the ramp
is going to be a great thing,”
said Wardrip. “It will really
improve my ability to get
around and help me to get
out…
