To better serve Destin residents in a costeffective way and to enhance the quality
of life with a cleaner community, the City
of Destin has negotiated new rates and
benefits for solid waste services with Waste
Management, Inc., the City’s contracted
solid waste service provider.
To achieve the quality of life expected by all residents, the City
will strictly enforce mandatory garbage service through its
Code Enforcement Division with regular cross-checking for
noncompliance. The City will recommend maximum fines to be
levied by the Code Enforcement Board for noncompliance.

A residence in Destin is required to receive garbage service if it has
water service. The City has partnered with Destin Water Users and
South Walton Utilities to monitor residential water connections.
The City’s partnership with Waste
Management will provide quality solid waste
disposal services to all Destin residents and
businesses.
This partnership ensures a high level of
performance as well as excellent service to all customers in Destin with
the checks and balances in place to monitor these services.

Guaranteed Lower Rates: Residential cart customers in the
City of Destin will see an 11% reduction in their quarterly rates
starting Jan. 1, 2012. The new quarterly rates follow:

Beach Recycling: Solar recycling compactors are being placed at

Annual Run with the Dogs 5K!
The City of Destin Recreation Department will host the 12th Annual Run with the Dogs 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 9 a.m. This run is open
to individual runners/walkers. Participants may bring their dog, big or small, to run or walk the race. Pre-registration costs $20 and must be completed by
March 1. Registration costs increase to $25 if registered between March 2 and March 16. Day-of registration will cost $30 and will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30
a.m. behind Destin City Hall (4200 Indian Bayou Trail). Participants can also register online at www.active.com until March 15. The race begins at 9 a.m.
Grand Opening of the Destin Dog Park!
Join the Destin City Council, the Dog Park Committee, Volunteers and City Staff at the grand
opening of the Destin Dog Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Be sure to bring your
dogs!
Over the past several months, the Dog Park Committee and volunteers worked diligently to
raise the funds to construct this world-class park. Their hard work has paid off for all of Destin to
enjoy. Our hats go off to all of these dedicated citizens.
The park is located at the corner of Commons Drive and Indian Bayou Trial, next to the Destin
City Hall Annex.

COMMUNITY CENTER PROGRAMS
CHAIR YOGA: Thursdays at 10 a.m. Cost is $3 per
class.
YOGA: Thursdays at noon. Cost is $3 per class.
ZUMBA GOLD: Thursdays at 11 a.m. Cost is $6 per
class.
ZUMBA FOR KIDS: A Zumbatomic Class will start in
January at the Destin Community Center on Tuesdays
at 4:30 p.m. Zumbatomic is Zumba for children ages
4-12 where they get fit by doing crazy-cool dancefitness moves to hip-hop, salsa, reggaeton and
more. The fee is $10 per class or get class cards at 10
for $70 or 20 for $100. Please call Melissa at 543-1507

LOW-IMPACT AEROBICS: Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Please bring
water and a towel. Cost is $3 per class.
JAZZERCISE CLASS: Mondays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The class includes
warm-up, high-energy aerobic routines, muscle
toning and a cool down stretch segment. Cost is $10
per week or $36 per month for residents.
VOLLEYBALL: Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. Cost is $2 for non-residents. Free to Destin
residents.
WOODCARVING: Friday’s from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost
is $3 per class.
DUPLICATE BRIDGE: Games are held at the
Community Center on Mondays at 9:30 a.m.,
Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 9:30
a.m.
LINE DANCING: Beginning in January. Wednesdays
at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per class.
KIDS’ NIGHT OUT: Parents, now is your time to have
fun while the kids spend a supervised evening full of
games, movies and pizza. For ages 5-12. One Friday
per month from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Please call the
Community Center at 837-5184 for dates. Cost is $15
for residents and $20 per non-resident, per child.
WALKING CLUB: Walk in the comfort of the
Community Center gym with music Monday through
Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
HOLIDAY BAKING CLASS: December 20 and 21
from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For ages 8 to 14. Cost is $25
per resident and $30 per non-resident.
SPRING CRAFT SHOW: Saturday, February 25, from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Cost for a 8’x10’
booth is $30. Call the Community Center at 6545184 to reserve a booth.
SPRING INTO FUN CAMP: Week-long camp during
spring break, March 19-23, for ages 5-12. Cost is $60
for residents and $70 for non-residents.
BATON LESSONS: Come Join the Fun and Learn
the great sport of baton twirling! Robyn Coley with
the All Star Twirlers is taking names for baton lessons
at the Destin Community Center in Spring 2012. All
ages are welcome! All Star Twirlers have won many
state, national, and international contests! Please

TENNIS LESSONS: The City of Destin is offering
a tennis program with USPTA Professional Brian
Wilson at Buck Destin Park on Legion Drive. This
program is open to all ages and abilities. Private and
hitting lessons for experienced players will also be
available. Group classes will be one hour long and
cost $15 a session. Private lessons will be $50 an
hour. Other programs will be added in the future. To

GAME ROOM/OPEN GYM: The Game Room and
Gymnasium at the Destin Community Center are
open to children 10 and older Monday through
Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Children under 10
years old must be accompanied by an adult. The
Community Center has a ping-pong table, a pool
table, a foosball table, an air hockey table, and a
basketball & volleyball court

YOUTH SOCCER REGISTRATION: Destin Spring Youth
Soccer is having registration January 3 through
February 17. Register online at www.cityofdestin.com
or in person at the Destin Community Center Monday
through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $25 for
Destin Residents and $35 for non-Destin residents.
The soccer program is designed for youth ages 3-13
years old as of January 1, 2012. A birth certificate is
required for all participants. The last day to register
will be Friday, February 17, at 4 p.m. All games will
be held on Friday nights. The Youth Soccer Program
needs coaches!! Please sign up to coach at the Destin

YOUTH LEAGUE BASKETBALL: The season runs
December 2011 through February 2012 for ages
5-14. Practice is every Tuesday and Wednesday for one
hour between 5-8 p.m., and games are on Saturdays.
The cost is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents.

for cleaning up after their dogs (bring your baggies!).
