Cruises Day Trips to Biloxi To better serve Destin residents in a costeffective way and to enhance the quality of life with a cleaner community, the City of Destin has negotiated new rates and benefits for solid waste services with Waste Management, Inc., the City’s contracted solid waste service provider. To achieve the quality of life expected by all residents, the City will strictly enforce mandatory garbage service through its Code Enforcement Division with regular cross-checking for noncompliance. The City will recommend maximum fines to be levied by the Code Enforcement Board for noncompliance. Bingo at the Community Center Water Color Paint Lessons A residence in Destin is required to receive garbage service if it has water service. The City has partnered with Destin Water Users and South Walton Utilities to monitor residential water connections. The City’s partnership with Waste Management will provide quality solid waste disposal services to all Destin residents and businesses. This partnership ensures a high level of performance as well as excellent service to all customers in Destin with the checks and balances in place to monitor these services. Benefits BEGINNING jan. 1, 2012 Elimination of the Garbage Cart Sticker: Beginning Jan. 1, Green Rewards Program: Waste Management 2012, residential cart customers will no longer receive a sticker for garbage carts. Guaranteed Lower Rates: Residential cart customers in the City of Destin will see an 11% reduction in their quarterly rates starting Jan. 1, 2012. This program is currently being developed and will be rolled out once it is finalized! Beach Recycling: Solar recycling compactors are being placed at City beach access points for residents and visitors to recycle. This is a pilot program. The previous quarterly rate for a residential garbage cart was White Goods Drop Off: $72.12. • White goods (dryers, stoves, refrigerators, etc.) can be dropped off Free Bulk Pickup: Traditionally, if a residential customer needed at the City’s Public Services Department twice a year for free (spring bulk items picked up from their home other than on the spring or and fall). These cleanup days will be advertised for residents to take fall cleanup days, they would have to pay for this service. Beginning advantage of the free service. The City of Destin Recreation Department will host the 12th Annual Run with the Dogs 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 9 a.m. This run is open to individual runners/walkers. Participants may bring their dog, big or small, to run or walk the race. Pre-registration costs $20 and must be completed by March 1. Registration costs increase to $25 if registered between March 2 and March 16. Day-of registration will cost $30 and will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. behind Destin City Hall (4200 Indian Bayou Trail). Participants can also register online at www.active.com until March 15. The race begins at 9 a.m. Grand Opening of the Destin Dog Park!
