Copying from Word and pasting to any Blackboard text box may cause problems Although we--Information Technology Group highly encourage you to write in a word processor such as Microsoft Word and save a local copy of what you post in Blackboard, copying / pasting from Word into any Blackboard text field can cause problems. This issue may arise when pasting into announcements, items, test questions, discussion boards, blogs, journals, Grade Center feedback, and email — Actually, anywhere on Blackboard that you find a text editor box, this issue may arise. Word documents contain invisible HTML that determines how the document is formatted. These codes may result a Blackboard page to display information incorrectly in one or a combination of the following ways: 1. Visibly, for example page elements nest improperly 2. Invisibly, for example form fields like test question selectors will not functioning properly To help prevent this from happening you can do one of the following options. Option One: 1. Copy the Word file to a basic text editor program to remove all the invisible HTML. Remember you will lose all the formatting. a. PC users may use Notepad b. Mac users may use TextEdit 2. Copy the text from the basic text editor to your Blackboard text editor. 3. Format your text if you want Option Two: 1. Copy the Word file 2. In the Blackboard text box click the HTML button 3. 4. 5. 6. Paste the copied text to the HTML editor Click the Update button Format your text if you want Click the Submit button
