WEEKLY CHALLENGE
“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but
the greatest of these is love. Pursue love, and
earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you
may prophesy.”
(1Corinthians 13:13-14:1)
Last Sunday, we were brought back into the backdrop of Who God is and what we
as His people are called to be as we walk out our journey with God - Love. As
defined, this love is greater than intimate love, brotherly love, and even family love this love is unconditional love.
Unconditional love is something that we can not produce on our own. We must first
receive that kind of love from God - experience it - before we can pass it on to
others. Paul says this love is greater than both faith and hope. Understanding this
love allows us to walk in faith and have hope for the future - for all eternity.
So, this week’s challenge is to pursue love. Why pursue? Because this kind of love
must be ‘pressed hard after with earnestness and diligence in order to obtain it.’
That’s the definition of the Greek word for pursue. Agape love is not something
that just happens or comes along naturally. It is a kind of love that we must ‘go after
with the desire of obtaining.’
Why go to all the effort, you might ask? Because we are called by God to love Him
and love others with this type of driving, pursuit of love. In doing that, our desires
will move towards building up others and not focusing so much on ourselves. As this
progresses, a healthy community of love will grow resulting in Jesus’ promise, “by
this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
