SYNOPSIS:
On May 20th, 2017, at about 3:41 p.m., Lemon Grove Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a report of a major traffic
collision at the 3200 block of Sweetwater Road in Lemon Grove. Upon arrival, units saw the collision involved a vehicle
that had collided with a residence's cinder block fence. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a green Honda
Accord, was located unconscious lying on the pavement near his vehicle. Fire Department/Paramedics responded to the
scene and declared the driver deceased.
Preliminary investigations and witness' statements revealed the driver of the Honda-Accord was traveling southbound on
Sweetwater Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the cinder block wall of a
residence. The force of the impact ejected the driver when the driver's side door of the vehicle became open as a result
of the impact. A subsequent inspection of the Honda Accord's seatbelt revealed it was not in use at the time of the
collision. Although alcoholic beverage consumption is not believed to be a factor in this collision, deputies will make a
final conclusion on any impairment driving once the autopsy has been completed. The primary collision factor in this
collision is believed to be excessive speed. Lemon Grove traffic collision investigators will complete a full report on this
incident.
The driver of the Honda Accord was described to be a Hispanic adult male born in 1990. Next of kin notifications will be
made by the Medical Examiner's Office.
