Recently we have strengthened partnerships with Montcalm Community College, EightCAP Inc., and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program to gain efficiencies and bring improved services to people in our community. 2-1-1—Launched in November of 2011, our local 2-1-1 has fielded over 7,000 calls from residents of Montcalm and Ionia Counties for resources such as food, shelter, utility assistance, child care, volunteer opportunities, healthcare and more. Last year, 2-1-1 fielded over 2,994 calls. Benefits Access—MI Benefits Access is a public/private initiative HEALTH • • • • Greenville Optimist Camp Cherry Health Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired YMCA of Ionia County created to streamline the benefits application process, increase online access to MDHHS programs, and coordinate local support services, coupled with nonprofit outreach. Last year, over 4,809 residents were enrolled in the Healthy Michigan Plan. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) — VITA assisted nearly 800 people in preparing their income tax and credit returns bring approximately $360,000 directly back into our community. Our clients use this money in the community for things like utility payments, rent, groceries, fuel, and child care. Volunteer Connections/Day of Caring/ and National Days of Service—Volunteerism supports not only UWMI, but most of our partner agencies strengthening efforts in the areas of Income, Education, Health and Basic Needs.
