Mary McKinney – Learning Disabilities Resource Teacher Molly Bruno

August 8, 2014
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is a pleasure to welcome everyone back to Hatch School. I hope all of you have had an
enjoyable summer and are ready for an exciting, new school year.
Our first day of school will be on Monday, August 25. We will be in session from 8:00-2:55PM.
Our P.T.O. does a wonderful job welcoming parents to Hatch on the first day of school. While
the children are lining up, we hope all the parents will visit the hospitality table set-up by the
P.T.O. It will be an opportunity for parents to sign-up for programs and activities.
Important News:
•

•
Lisa Hammond has accepted the Administrative Assistant Position at Whittier School.
We would rather have her stay at Hatch School, but we support her decision and wish her
well in her new position. Mrs. Hammond has been a part of Hatch for more than 17 years
as a parent, substitute teacher, tutor, parent volunteer and an outstanding Administrative
Assistant. She will be greatly missed!
Mona Mann, one of our music teachers, will be leaving us to take a new position in
River Forest. She has been with us for eleven years (including student teaching) and will
be greatly missed as well.
Julie Nickels, our Occupational Therapist, had a baby boy in July named Gavin James.
Congratulations Mrs. Nickels!
We would like to welcome our new staff members:
Mary McKinney – Learning Disabilities Resource Teacher
Molly Bruno – FLES (Spanish) Teacher
Both of them have excellent credentials and are very enthusiastic about joining the Hatch School
Community. Please stop by and say hello!

SCHOOL HOURS:
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, school will be in session from 8:00-11:00AM and
11:55-2:55PM. On Wednesday, all students will attend a shortened day from 8:00-10:30AM and
11:25-1:55PM. The playground will be supervised in the morning, 15 minutes before school
starts. Children should not arrive at school before 7:45AM in the morning. Supervision is not
available, unless they are participating in the breakfast program, or special arrangements have
been made by teachers for early arrival. Please have your child on the playground by 7:55AM.
We realize that tardiness is sometimes unavoidable, but we want our children to understand the
importance of arriving at school on time.
LUNCH TIME:
Our first lunch hour will begin on Monday, August 25. Children who will be staying for lunch
will need to bring something to eat and drink (no glass bottles, please). Hot lunch will be
available to students who have hot lunch accounts. If you wish to have your child participate in
this program, please stop by the office to set up an account for your child. As a convenience and
to save paper, parents/guardians can pay on-line by credit card at www.op97.org. To
complete your payment at the Web Store, you will need your child’s ID number.
Emergency Forms will be sent home during the first week of school. The Breakfast
Program will begin on Monday, August 25 from 7:15-7:45AM.
Due to all day kindergarten, we will have kindergarten students eating in the lunchroom. We are
looking for parent/guardian volunteers to assist in the lunchroom during the first three weeks of
school. Please call the school office, if you are available.
NEW PARENT NIGHT
Please watch for a flyer after the start of the school year.
CURRICULUM NIGHTS
All parents will be invited to the Hatch School Curriculum Nights. Parents will be able to meet
homeroom teachers and special area teachers, to learn about the curriculum, and to sign up for
October parent-teacher conferences. Dates and times will be announced by each grade in early
September.
This summer has been a restful time for all of us. I look forward to another great school year
with the children, parents, and staff at Hatch School.
Sincerely,
Sheila Y. Carter
Reminder:
Kindergarten students must have a new physical on file in the nurse’s office by the first day
of school.
