The Week’s Highlights
General Comments
We started our first week in Kindy class by looking at the skeletal system. We learned
lots of facts about our bones, (did you know that babies have more bones than
adults?), and whilst they might be the strongest things in our body we learned that we
still need to take care of them by eating the right diet.
We also took more responsibility for our own actions by deciding as a class what our
classroom rules should be. I believe that this will help everyone not only to follow the
rules but also to understand why we have them.
Arts & Crafts
This week we wove some Easter baskets from construction paper. We
took strips of different coloured paper and crisscrossed them over each
other to make the base then did the same to the sides and secured them
with some glue and a stapler, then we added a handle of construction
paper. We'll decorate them further over the next week to make them extra
special for Easter.
Hands on Learning
This week we didn't have hands-on learning activity but we'll be making
something super healthy next week during cooking class.
Language arts
We wrote our first diary entry of the new school year and talked all about
what we did over the Spring Break. It was great to hear how much fun
everyone had over the holidays.
Phonological awareness:
We started working on consonant blending this week and will continue this activity
throughout April. We practiced blending starting sounds with r and l e.g., br, tr, cl, and
fl. Everyone did very well at this and were able to think of so many words that use
these sounds.
Japanese lesson:
This week was the first week of reading the story “Chiisananeji”. The students were
listening well. As for Kanji this week, the students learned the characters: Boku, Oto,
Me, Shigotodai,Shinbou and Todana. As for writing, they completed a writing
worksheet of Hanami words. We sang the song of “Hana (Sumidagawa)”. Also they
reviewed Hiragana from あ- お. We focused on the right stroke order and
handwriting. They did well. Good job everyone!

Physical Education
This week we didn't have a separate P.E. lesson.
Numeracy
We practiced learning how to measure using a ruler. First we completed a
worksheet measuring shoelaces and then we went around the classroom
taking measurements and recording them on a piece of paper. We'll continue
exploring measurements next week and use addition to help us measure
longer objects using our rulers.
What to look to next week
Next week we will be exploring some of our internal organs and how they work
together to keep us alive. We'll also be continuing to practice taking measurements
with a ruler, making a very healthy salad for our cooking lesson, and working out our
bodies by practicing using the vault. See you next week.
