First Baptist Church Discover the Love of Christ April 2017 Frostproof, Florida Pastor’s Remarks Dear Church Family, Well, spring is here. Everything is blooming and springing to new life. That’s what Easter is about. Speaking of new life, in a couple of weeks we celebrate the fact of our Savior’s victory over death and the grave and all that implies. It should be a time of renewal in our individual lives as we intentionally focus upon God’s plan and direction for us, as we celebrate our new life in Christ. Because Our Lord Jesus was victorious and because we identify with Him in His death, burial and resurrection, we too can be victorious. The summer months are quickly approaching. Please continue to pray for all the activities of the church, and specifically Vacation Bible School and Youth camp. Thanks for your support of these ministries. Thanks for being such loving, caring people. In conversation with a couple of people who used to be members here, they expressed to me that they miss the love and genuine fellowship that you folks so graciously extend, especially from the senior adults. You are to be commended and keep up the good effort! He Is Risen! DISCOVER THE LOVE OF CHRIST PAGE 2 Five Reasons Why Easter Is Important To Christians 1. Jesus Restores Our Brokenness: Because of all Christ accomplished on the cross and confirmed by rising from the dead, we are not under sin’s condemnation. This means that even regrets need not be a part of your life in Christ anymore. The Savior declares those things forgiven. Jesus Christ pronounces them done, handled, gone, buried, behind us, over, finished! 2. Jesus Provides Faith to Settle Our Doubts: A lot of people struggle with doubts—and you can bring yours to Jesus. If you’re sincerely wrestling with can I trust God? Or Can I trust His Word? Is all of this real? You don’t have to be afraid. From the flaming questions of Job to the stubborn "Show me!" of Thomas, God has demonstrated an incredible capacity to deal with the doubter. In Jesus’ presence, doubts vanish. 3. Jesus Gives Peace to Replace Our Fears: Perhaps you have been dealing with a specific need. You are waiting and praying for a significant change. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ is alive! And I believe He wants to touch every need in our lives. 4. Jesus Conquers Our Struggles: Maybe there’s a particular sin that rings your phone, and every time you answer, you wonder, Will I ever get victory here? Will I ever be able to leave this addictive pattern behind? Know this: those are the exact areas Jesus wants to step into and conquer with His resurrection power! 5. Jesus Encourages when we’re Overwhelmed: Maybe you’ve been heavyhearted or overwhelmed from carrying some other weight. Jesus Christ wants not only to address but also to make you new again. With His resurrection newness, Jesus can touch any area in our lives where we have struggled. He did when He left the grave, and He’s still doing it today. Whatever you are facing today, I’ve got breaking news: the resurrected Jesus is alive! And He is ready to make Himself known powerfully in your life—to make you forever new. PAGE 3 DISCOVER THE LOVE OF CHRIST Due to my own sickness & spring break, I was not able to attend as many GNC meetings as I would have liked this past March. Apr 5: Regular Night Apr 8: 8 AWANA GRAND PRIX! (All welcome so we can love on our kids’ families!) Apr 12: 12 Easter Celebration Apr 19: “Crazy Glasses” Night (wear your craziest!) Apr 26: 26 Regular Night My thoughts for this month are largely focused on VBS. What a wonderful opportunity it is to have +/100 children on our campus for an entire week! People get SAVED through VBS!! That should get our attention & get our blood pumping!! My main request is this: Please don’t say to yourself “Oh, they’ve got it covered” this year. Yes, VBS will happen. But without YOUR help, a few faithful children’s workers will quickly burn out. And then what happens to the church? Christ didn’t intend for a few to do all the work. The analogy of the body is used too often in Scripture for us to ignore the need for TEAMWORK. I promise there is SOMETHING for everyone to help with in VBS, no matter how young or old. Because every kid needs love. So let’s talk, you & me. I would LOVE for the families of this community to really see a loving church in action. So, yes, please pray for us as we prepare, but also act. Thank you for reading my thoughts & more importantly, thank you for fighting alongside me for the Kingdom. Thank God He’s already won the war! However, even with the end in sight, we continue to covet your prayers for our children this April. The questions the children are asking are wonderfully thought-provoking. We continue to pray for more leaders as we can see that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. If you ask God and He tells you to help out, call the church office & let me know! We ARE the church & I hope none of us are retiring from this wonderful kingdom work. (Ben Hill Griffin GNC: Wed. 3-4:30pm) VBS 2017 IS COMING! As I write this, while we do not have an exact count I can say we have managed to raise nearly $3000 that will go directly to students for their Super Summer Camp 2017! It is an honor to serve alongside a church family that is as generous and encouraging as you are. We of the student ministry are looking forward to serving you soon with our upcoming Youth Sunday! This year’s service falls on Sunday, April 23rd, and it is a great opportunity to meet some of our teenagers. During this day, students will take over everything from leading worship, taking the offering, and even leading some of our Life Group classes! Our students are looking forward to meeting many of you and sharing their love for Christ. Following Student Sunday, we will host one more O2 Café in the Smith Building for lunch. Please join us for a sit down O2 Café style meal after the service ends at 12 noon! All of the proceeds will go to support the Students in their fundraising efforts for camp. Once again, thank you for your continued financial, spiritual, and loving support of the student ministry. Let me leave you with this promise found in the book of 2 Corinthians: Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. -2 Corinthians 9:10 You are a significant reason we are reaching students for the kingdom!
