Monster English 1, Unit 8
We created this lesson for a familiar family situation; a child misplaces something and then asks their parent
where it is. This is a daily occurrence in many households! So it is also an excellent to learn new skills, and to
receive lot’s of practice. We admit, this unit may take some time to master. If it is too hard, feel free to move
on and then come back to it at a later date.
Language Goals
1. Say what you have.
“I have a toy rocket.”
2. Use the third person to say what someone has.
“He has a toy rocket.”
3. Ask if someone has something, using the first and second person.
“Do you have a toy rocket?” “Yes, I do.”
4. Use the third person to ask if another person has something.
“Does she have a toy rocket?” “No, she doesn’t.”
5. Ask where something is.
“Where’s my toy rocket?”
6. Ask someone if they have seen what you are looking for.
“Have you seen my toy rocket?” “Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.”
7. Ask what something looks like.
“What does it look like?”
8. Use adjectives to describe objects.
“It’s yellow. It’s long.”
Classroom tips
Because students will be describing items, this unit should be taught with plenty of props. Use common
items found in any Japanese home.
Activity ideas
Cue cards: We’ve included a set of toys based on a transportation theme. Use these for games and
