Begin your day at the Templo Mayor to visit the ruins of the double pyramid built by the Aztecs. Continue on to the heart of Mexico City, the Zócalo, the second largest public square in the world. View the Palacio Nacional, the seat of civil government, with murals portraying Mexican history and culture. Visit the baroque and neo-classical façade of the Catedral Metropolitana. Continue to Alameda Park, the city's oldest park, for a visit to the Palace of Fine Arts where you’ll see works by Mexican artists. DAY 3 • MEXICO CITY • Today, greet your coach and full-day local guide for a morning tour of Bosques de Chapultepec. View the Castillo de Chapultepec, built on the former foundations of Montezuma’s palace, and visit the National Museum of Anthropology, which brings to light past and present cultures. This afternoon, visit a Mexican bazaar to see authentic Mexican crafts. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Mexico City. DAY 4 • MEXICO CITY • TEOTIHUACAN • After a hearty breakfast, join your coach and full-day guide for a morning visit to the Plaza of Three Cultures, which symbolizes Mexican culture, and the remains of the Aztec Tlatelolco Market. Continue on for a visit to the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadelupe, built on the site where the Virgin Mary appeared. This afternoon, transfer to Teotihuacan, the City of the Gods, for a guided visit through the pyramids. Return to Mexico City for dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Mexico City. DAY 5 • XOCHIMILCO • PUEBLA • This morning, meet your tour director and coach and transfer to Xochimilco Floating Gardens to view the trajineras - the colorful canal boats - as you glide through the waterways. You will visit the produce and flower market before transferring to Puebla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for check-in at your hotel. Greet a local guide for an afternoon tour of the historic district highlighting the Casa del que Mató el Animal, a carved stone doorway that shows scenes of a hunter with his dogs, Alley of the Frogs, and the Church of Santo Domingo. Visit the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and enter a house with a secret passageway to the Secret Convent of Santa Monica. Return to your hotel for dinner. Overnight in Puebla. DAY 6 • TEPOZTLÁN • CUERNAVACA • Continue on your journey to Tepoztlán, a small town nestled between rocky cliffs. If time and weather permit, climb the steep hill to the archeological site pf El Tepozteco Pyramid. Continue to the beautiful, colonial city of Cuernavaca for an orientation tour with your tour director, and visit the Borda Estate Gardens, summer residence of Emperor Maximilian and Empress Carlota. This afternoon, depart to Taxco, stopping en route for a visit to one of Mexico’s treasures, the Cacahuamilpa Grottos. Arrive in Taxco for check-in and dinner at your hotel. Overnight in Taxco. DAY 7 • TAXCO • ACAPULCO • Following breakfast, enjoy a guided morning walking tour of Taxco, which is over 6,000 feet above sea level. Enjoy the Zócalo, lined with mnay silver shops, and visit the baroque, pink-stoned Santa Prisca Church. Transfer to Acapulco for check-in and dinner at your hotel. Overnight in Acapulco. DAY 8 • ACAPULCO • Following breakfast, the day is yours to enjoy. Perhaps you will relax and bask in the sun on the white, sandy beaches and take a dip in the warm waters of the bay.
