Vocabulary
Directions: Each week you have a vocabulary assignment to do from your vocabulary book: Vocabulary for the College-Bound
Student. The assignment is due by Friday of that week (except where noted). The assignment includes learning the words and
definitions on the assigned pages, and completing the assigned exercises. In addition, you must design one test question using
words from the assignment. The test question must be designed from your own imagination–not taken from the exercises in the
vocabulary book. Examples of the types of test questions you can design are given below. Vocabulary tests will be given approximately every three weeks, and semester final exams will include sections on vocabulary.

Student-Designed Test Questions
Directions: The two types of test questions given
below are often found on standardized tests, so in
order to practice taking these types of tests, you are
asked to design a similar test question (one of the two
types given below) using vocabulary words from your
weekly assignments. Make sure your test question is
an original, not copied from one of the exercises in
the vocabulary book.
VOCABULARY Directions: Each sentence below
has one or two blanks, each blank indicating that
something has been omitted. Beneath the sentence
are five words or sets of words labeled A through E.
Choose the word or set of words that, when inserted
in the sentence, best fits the meaning of the sentence
as a whole. Mark the letter of the answer you choose
