ITS Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Gwinnett County Intelligent
Transportation System is to minimize delays on the
roadway system by providing peak hour and special
event surveillance of county arterials to identify incident
locations and areas of congestion, allowing remote
signal coordination and maintenance, and enabling
local (government, business and citizen) access to
traffic conditions.
History & Growth
• Completed 33 ITS Projects
between 2001-2013
• Provides Communications along
~200 Miles of Major Corridors
• Connects 420 Traffic Signals and
191 Traffic Cameras to the TCC
History & Growth
•
Launched GC Smart Commute in 2010
www.gcsmartcommute.com
•
Traveler Information Website
•
Live real-time traffic looped for heavilytravelled intersections and corridors
during peak hours
• TVgwinnett, weekdays from 6:30am –
8:30am and 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Project Overview
• The ITS expansion and user feedback
necessitated an improvement to the
GCSmartCommute website
• GCSmartCommute was limited to 16
video streams in a rotation
• User feedback was 99.99% to have
access to see all cameras on a route
Project Overview
• Establish a local instance of the
Georgia DOT NaviGAtor II system to
serve as a central platform
• Maintain a phased approach to
expand the capabilities and provide a
consolidated user interface with
• Map display of County & GDOT CCTVs
• Video wall control
• User Hierarchy
Project Overview
• Enable sharing of information to
facilitate traffic management functions
• Provide easier use for County Public
Safety staff for Incident Management
• Respond to user feedback for more
information & options on the GC
Smart Commute website
