INDIANA PACERS GAME NOTES
PACERS 50TH SEASON CELEBRATION: 1967-2017
The Lede:
• This series marks only the second time in a best-of-seven series that the Pacers have faced a 0-3 deficit. The Pacers lost the first three games in the First Round against Chicago in the 2010-11 postseason before falling to the
Bulls, 1-4. Indiana has never been swept in four games in a best-of-seven series in NBA franchise history.
• Paul George is leading the Pacers with averages of 32.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game in the playoffs. He is currently fourth in the NBA this postseason in scoring average, 10th in rebounding and eighth in assists.
George recorded his first double-double of the series with 36 points and a playoff career-high 15 rebounds Thursday in Game 3.
• George currently leads all players this postseason with 15 three-pointers made and is shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range.
• Thaddeus Young recorded the fourth double-double of his playoff career as he finished with 11 points and a postseason career-high 14 rebounds, including 10 off the offensive glass, Thursday in Game 3. His 10 offensive boards is
the most by any player in the 2017 playoffs, and fell one shy of Jermaine O’Neal’s franchise record of 11 set at Boston on May 1, 2003.
• Young’s six steals in Game 2 was the highest total by any player in a playoff game this season, and one shy of Haywoode Workman’s record of seven set at Orlando on April 28, 1994.
• Jeff Teague shot 8-for-12 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line for 23 points in Game 2 at Cleveland. He is second on the team with 17.7 points and 5.0 assists per game in the playoffs and is shooting 48.5 percent
from the field, 57.1 percent from three-point range. He set a playoff career-high with four three-pointers in Game 3.
• The Pacers are second in the NBA in steals in the postseason with 10.0 per game.
• Lance Stephenson has scored in double figures in all three games this series and is averaging 14.0 points, 5.0 reobunds and 2.7 assists per game over 25.7 minutes per game off the bench. Stephenson tied his playoff careerhigh with three three-pointers in a 13-point effort in Game 3.
• Indiana set a playoff franchise record with 16 three-pointers in Game 3, but allowed a franchise record as Cleveland sank 21 triples on the night.

INDIANA PACERS GAME NOTES
PACERS 50TH SEASON CELEBRATION: 1967-2017
Pacers in the Playoffs
On the strength of five straight wins to end the season, Indiana secured a berth in the NBA Playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, and for the 24th time in NBA franchise history. The Pacers
have now made the playoffs 22 times since the 1989-90 season, the most postseason appearances by any Eastern Conference team over that span.
Home Court Heroes
Indiana finished the regular season with a 29-12 record at home, the fourth-best home record in the Eastern Conference. In 41 home games this season, Indiana limited opponents to 101.7 points per game
(8th in the NBA) on 43.7 percent shooting from the field (4th) and 33.9 percent from three-point range (9th). 19 of Indiana’s home wins came by margins of 10 or more points.
With their home win over Memphis on Feb. 24, the Pacers secured a winning record on their home court for the 28th consecutive season -- the longest active streak in the NBA.
The New Pace
Indiana averaged 105.1 points per game during the regular season, an improvement of 2.9 points per game over its average of 102.2 points per game during the 2015-16 campaign.
The Pacers posted a 20-6 record when scoring 110 or more points, including a 14-3 mark at home. Indiana scored 120 or more points nine times during the regular season, the highest total since the Pacers
recorded 14 games with 120 or more during the 1992-93 season. Indiana went 8-1 when scoring 120 or more points this season.
Indiana averaged more than 105 points per game for the first full season since they scored 105.1 points per game during the 2008-09 season.
Paul George finished 15th in the NBA while averaging a career-high 23.7 points per game, the fifth-highest scoring average in the franchise's NBA history.
Percentage Points
The Pacers finished the regular season ranked 10th in the NBA in field goal percentage, shooting 46.5 percent from the field. This was the first season in which Indiana finished with a team field goal
percentage better than 46.0 percent from the field since the 1997-98 season when the Pacers shot 46.9 percent from the field.
Indiana posted a 19-4 record this season when shooting 50 percent or better from the field, including a 14-2 mark at home. Thaddeus Young finished the season ranked 17th in the NBA while shooting a
team-best 52.7 percent from the field. Myles Turner ranked 22nd in the league at 51.1 percent.
The Pacers finished fourth in the NBA in team three-point percentage as they shot 37.6 percent from long range. That marked the seventh-highest team three-point percentage in franchise history with
their best mark since the 2008-09 season (.378). C.J. Miles led the Pacers and finished 12th in the NBA while shooting a career-best 41.3 percent from long range on the season. Paul George finished 31st
in the league while shooting 39.3 percent from three-point range, his highest mark over a full season in his NBA career.
Indiana ranked second in the league in free throw percentage with the third-highest mark in franchise history at 81.0 percent from the line. Paul George finished fifth in the NBA while shooting a careerbest 89.8 percent from the free throw line during the regular season. Jeff Teague ranked 19th at 86.7 percent from the line, while Myles Turner finished fifth among all qualified centers in the NBA at 80.9
percent from the stripe.
The Pacers recorded three perfect outings from the free throw line this season, the best coming in an 18-for-18 outing in the win over Toronto, 4/4. This was the first season in Indiana’s NBA franchise
history in which the Pacers recorded more than two games with perfect marks at the foul line.
Three-Point Prowess
With 709 three-pointers made this season, the Pacers posted their second-highest three-point total in franchise history (755 in 2007-08).
Paul George finished with 195 three-pointers during the regular season, 12th in the NBA in 2016-17 and tied with Reggie Miller's 1994-95 total for the third-most threes made in a season in franchise history.
C.J. Miles finished 20th in the league with a career-high 169 threes made.
George and Miles’ 364 combined three-point field goals set a record for the most three-pointers made by any pair of Pacers teammates in the same season in franchise history, passing the total of 352
the two combined to make during the 2015-16 season (George, 210; Miles, 142). In 50 seasons of Pacers basketball, there have only been three seasons in which two teammates have both made 150 or more
threes. George and Miles have achieved those marks in each of the last two seasons. Danny Granger (182) and Troy Murphy (161) combined to make 343 three-pointers during the 2008-09 season.
Sharing the Rock
The Pacers averaged 22.5 assists per game during the regular season, their highest average over a full season since the 2008-09 campaign. Indiana recorded at least 30 assists six times this season, a
feat the Pacers accomplished only once during the 2015-16 season. The Pacers set a season high with 35 assists on 51 field goals in a 127-point effort in the road win at Orlando on April 4. It was the Pacers’
first game with at least 35 assists since March 10, 2015.
The Pacers posted a 17-9 record this season when recording at least 25 assists. Jeff Teague ranked seventh in the NBA and set a new career high with 7.8 assists per game in his first season in Indiana.
He led the team in assists in 70 games, and became the first Pacer since Jamaal Tinsley in 2002-03 to average more than seven assists over a full season.
Teague recorded a career-high 17 assists in the win over the Bulls on Dec. 30. He finished the season with three games of at least 15 assists, becoming the first Indiana player to record three games with
15 or more assists since Tinsley in 2001-02.
Indiana recorded a 17-5 record this season when at least six players scored 10 or more points. The Pacers placed a season-high seven players in double figures in the team’s road win over the Los Angeles
Clippers on Dec. 4., and in the team’s home win over Philadelphia on March 26.
The Pacers went 5-1 when all five of their starters score in double figures, and 5-2 when three players scored 20 or more points.
The Turning Point
The Pacers averaged 13.8 turnovers per game during the regular season. Their 1,130 turnovers committed was the fewest over a full 82-game schedule in NBA franchise history. The Pacers committed
fewer turnovers than their opponent in 41 games this season with a 27-14 record in those outings. Indiana went 12-2 when recording 10 or fewer turnovers in a game.
Indiana finished the season ranked eighth in the league while forcing opponents into 14.9 turnovers per game. The Pacers ranked ninth with an average of 8.2 steals per game.
Three Pacers ranked in the NBA’s top 40 in steals this season: Paul George ranked 14th in the NBA with 1.6 steals per game, Thaddeus Young finished 17th with 1.53 steals per contest and Jeff Teague was
37th with 1.23 steals per game. This was only the fourth season in NBA franchise history and the first since 1979-80 in which three Pacers finished with 100+ steals.
Indiana ranked sixth in the NBA this season in team steals-per-turnover ratio.
Paul Star
George appeared in the All-Star Game for the fourth time in his career, placing him third in team history behind Jermaine O’Neal with six All-Star appearances and Reggie Miller with five. He shot 6-for-16
from the field and finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes off the bench in New Orleans on Feb. 19.
He set season highs with 43 points and nine assists to go with nine rebounds in the team’s double-overtime duel at Cleveland, 4/2. Falling just shy of the triple-double, George became the first Pacers
player in NBA franchise history to post marks of 40+ points, 9+ rebounds and 9+ assists in a game.
George finished the regular season with a career-high 23.7 points per game while shooting a career-best 46.1 percent from the field, 39.3 percent from three-point range and 89.8 percent from the free
throw line. He was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the fifth time in his career for games played from April 3-9, and finished the regular season with 12 consecutive games of 20 or more
points to help Indiana secure a spot in the playoffs.
Myles Ahead
Second-year center Myles Turner led the Pacers with 30 points and tied his career high with 16 rebounds in Indiana’s overtime win over Dallas on Oct. 26. In addition to the fifth double-double of his
career, he also added four blocked shots in the win. Turner joined Shaquille O’Neal and Anthony Davis as the only three players in NBA history under the age of 21 to record at least 30 points, 16 rebounds
and four blocks in a game.
Turner added 25 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in the win over Brooklyn on Jan. 5 to become the fourth player in NBA history under the age of 21 to record totals of 25+ points/15+ rebounds/5+
blocks in a game, joining Davis, O’Neal and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Turner became the seventh Pacers player and the first since Paul George in 2012 to participate in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds and a block in 18
minutes during All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
Turner finished third in the NBA with 2.14 blocks per game. He blocked at least four shots in 18 contests as the Pacers went 14-4 in those games. Turner finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and tied
his career high with six blocks in the season finale against the Hawks on April 12 to help Indiana lock up a playoff spot.
Indiana finished the regular season ranked 10th in the league with an average of 5.0 blocks per game.

PACERS 50TH SEASON CELEBRATION: 1967-2017
TEAGUE’S TURNAROUND
Acquired during the offseason from Atlanta in a three-team trade, Indianapolis native Jeff Teague got off to a slow start to his Pacers
career as he averaged 8.3 points per game on 22.0 percent shooting from the field and 1-for-15 from three-point range through the first
four games this season.
Since that point (Nov. 3), Teague averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the
field and 37.6 percent from three-point range.
He led the Pacers in assists in 70 games and ranked seventh in the NBA with a career-high 7.8 assists per game.
Teague scored a season-high 31 points against Boston on Dec. 22 and has posted three games with 30 or more points this season,
tying his career-high total of three 30+ point games with Atlanta during the 2013-14 regular season.
He posted 16 double-doubles this season after recording only four over 79 appearances during the 2015-16 season. It is the fourth
time in his career he has posted at least 10 double-doubles. He has recorded more double-doubles this season than any year in his NBA
career, passing his previous high of 15 set during the 2012-13 season with the Hawks.
Teague recorded arguably the best month of his NBA career in January as he averaged 16.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 9.8 assists per
game while shooting 54.8 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from three-point range and 90.9 percent from the foul line over a 13-game
span.
Teague has set a new career high with nine rebounds three times after never totaling more than eight in a game before this season.
Teague has pulled down at least eight rebounds nine times this season and the Pacers are 8-1 in those games. He is averaging a careerbest 4.1 rebounds per game this season.
3.J. MILES
With three three-pointers at Miami on Dec. 14, C.J. Miles moved into ninth place in Pacers NBA franchise history for the most threepointers made, and later moved into eighth place ahead of Austin Croshere (376) with six three-pointers against Sacramento, 1/27.
Miles passed Mike Dunleavy (408) into seventh place on the list with five threes against Memphis, 2/24. He passed Troy Murphy (419) for
sixth place on the list at San Antonio on March 1. With two more threes, Miles will move into fifth place on the list ahead of Chuck Person
(466).
Miles made his 1,000th career three-point field goal with his fifth three of the night at Cleveland, 4/2.
Now in his third season with the Pacers, Miles ranked 12th in the NBA this season in three-point percentage and 20th with 169 threes
made. He made at least two three-pointers in 48 of his 76 games played this season with a season high of six at Dallas, 12/9, against
the Nuggets in London, 1/12, versus the Kings, 1/27, against Cleveland, 2/8, and versus Milwaukee, 2/11.
BALANCING ACT
Indiana is 15-10 this season when two or more players score 20 or more points, including a 5-2 mark when three players score 20 or
more.
The Pacers are 5-1 when all five of their starters score in double figures. Indiana is 17-5 when at least six players score 10 or more
points. The Pacers placed a season-high seven players in double figures in the team’s road win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Dec.
4., and in the team’s home win over Philadelphia on March 26.
GR III EARNS THE CROWN
Pacers forward Glenn Robinson III earned the title of Slam Dunk Champion at the 2017 Verizon Slam Dunk Contest on All-Star
Saturday Night in New Orleans. Robinson was the eighth different Pacers player to compete in an NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and only the
third to win the title, joining Fred Jones in 2004 and Darnell Hillman in 1977.
Robinson carried that momentum into the second half of the regular season. He is averaging 5.6 points per game and shooting
50.0 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three-point range since the All-Star break. He capped an 11-point outing with the
game-winning three-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining in the win at Atlanta on March 5.
TEAGUE/TURNER, 20/15
Myles Turner finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds while Jeff Teague scored 21 points and handed out 15 assists in Indiana’s 121-109
win over the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 5. According to research from Elias Sports Bureau, it marked only the third time in Pacers’ NBA
history in which one player finished with 20+ points and 15+ rebounds and another recorded 20+ points and 15+ assists in the same
regular season game. Vern Fleming and Chuck Person performed that feat against Dallas on Dec. 23, 1987 (Fleming: 22 points, 15 assists;
Person: 31 points, 17 rebounds) while Jalen Rose and Jermaine O’Neal did it at Cleveland on April 18, 2001 (O’Neal: 30 points, 20 rebounds;
Rose 22 points, 20 assists).

The Pacers were one of two teams (Atlanta) in the NBA this season to overcome a deficit of 20 or more points and come back to win more than once this season.
Indiana trailed by 20 points before earning a 118-111 home win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Dec. 10. The Pacers dug themselves into a 22-point deficit in the first half at Sacramento before defeating the Kings 106-100 on Jan. 18. FORT REPORT
The Fort Wayne Made Ants were eliminated in their First Round playoff series with the Maine Red Claws as they dropped the decisive Game 3, 119-124, on April 12 in Portland, Maine.
Fort Wayne finished the 2016-17 regular season with a 30-20 record and secured the No. 2 seed in the NBADL Eastern Conference Playoffs. This marks the third time in the past four seasons the Mad
Ants have reached the playoffs. Fort Wayne won the 2014 NBA D-League championship and followed that with a trip to the Finals in 2015.
On March 1, the Mad Ants signed former Pacers first round draft pick Tyler Hansbrough, and acquired Marquis Teague, younger brother of Pacers point guard Jeff Teague, through a trade with the
Oklahoma City Blue. Hansbrough averaged 17.6 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in 13 regular season games, while Teague finished with averages of 12.0 points and 4.8 assists over 12 appearances.
Fort Wayne wrapped up a perfect month to open the season as the Mad Ants began the season 6-0. Head Coach Steve Gansey was named the NBA Development League Coach of the Month for games
played in November. The Mad Ants followed that with a 6-5 December as they were tied with Raptors 905 for the top spot in the East at the end of 2016.
Forward Alex Poythress, who appeared with the Pacers during the 2016 preseason, was selected the 2017 NBADL All-Star Game, before signing with the Philadelphia 76ers for the remainder of the season.
The Mad Ants are now in their second season operating as the Indiana Pacers’ NBA Development League affiliate under Pacers Sports and Entertainment.

Nate McMillan enters his first season as the Pacers’ head coach after three years as the team’s Associate Head Coach under Frank Vogel. His
background, former player, head coach and assistant coach in the NBA, as well as an assistant with USA Basketball, makes him very well qualified for
this new job.
“I truly believe Nate is the right coach for us at this time,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “When I heard he was
interested, I got in touch with him, met with him and in our conversation, I came away with all the confidence in the world in Nate to lead our franchise
to where we want to go. His experience as a player, head coach and assistant coach in the NBA are valuable assets for us. I like his demeanor. I like a
lot of things Nate brings to the table.”
“I want to thank Larry, Herb Simon and the Pacers for this opportunity, which is a great opportunity,” said McMillan. “I’ve been around this
franchise for three years and understand what the expectations are and look forward to working hard to try to meet them. We have a good team and
good base to build from.”
The 52-year-old (8/3/64) McMillan has a vast basketball background as a player and a coach. After playing collegiately at North Carolina State,
McMillan was drafted by Seattle (30th overall) in the 1986 NBA Draft. He played his entire 12-year career with the Sonics and had his number (10)
retired. He is second in franchise history in assists and steals and ranks in the top 10 in eight other categories. He was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive
team twice (1994 and ’95) and led the league in steals in the 1994-95 season with 2.96 per game. In his 12 seasons with the Sonics, they reached the
playoffs 11 times.
After his playing days, McMillan was a Seattle assistant coach for two years and became the interim coach in 2000. He remained the Sonics’ coach until 2005 and then became Portland’s head
coach until he was let go in March, 2012. In 2008-09, he led the Trail Blazers to 54-28 record, sixth-best record in franchise history and helped the Trail Blazers reach the playoffs in three of his six
seasons. McMillan compiled a 458-429 (.516) record as a head coach for both teams. He also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team where he won gold medals in the 2006 FIBA World
Championships, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.
While many believe McMillan’s strength as a player, defense, carried over to his coaching, McMillan says, “I’ve been labeled a defensive guy. Yeah, I played defense; but you have to be able to play
both sides of the ball, and if you expect your players to be two-way guys, you better be able to coach both ways. I will be coaching both ways.”
“This job is more than offense and defense, it’s a little bit of everything,” said Bird. “I think communication is one of the most important things. Every player needs to know where they stand at all
times. Why they’re not playing, or why they get taken out of games at a certain time. Nate proved in Portland and Seattle that he can do all that. It’s not just one or two things. It’s really a lot of things.
There’s more that goes into it than throw the ball up in the air. It’s playing hard and together. You’re not always going to play well, but you can always get the effort. And I think Nate will get that out of
them.”
And since his first time around as a coach, McMillan has done what all good coaches have done: go to school.
“I’ve learned a lot,” he said. “My approach will be a little different than it was in 2005. Things have changed. The players have changed. How you coach these players has changed. The biggest thing
is being able to adapt. There’s a lot of old school in me. I won’t lose all of that, but I understand you have to adapt to this generation of players as far as how you communicate with them, prepare them.”
McMillan was also inducted into the National Junior College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 after playing at Chowan College before transferring to North Carolina State.
McMillan and his wife, Michelle, have two children, Jamelle and Brittany.
BILL BAYNO
Assistant Coach
Bill Bayno is in his first season with the Pacers
with a long coaching career at all levels in his
background.
The 54-year-old (5/18/62) Bayno is no stranger
to head coach Nate McMillan, having been an
assistant to McMillan two different times when he
was the head coach at Portland. After that, Bayno
was an assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves
and the Toronto Raptors. He has been the director
for the Adidas Nations Camp in Long Beach, Cal., and
the Adidas Euro Camp in Treviso, Italy, since 2011.
Originally from Goshen, NY, Bayno played
collegiately at UMass for two seasons before
transferring to Sacred Heart where he was a
Division II All-American. From there, he worked in the
college ranks at Seton Hall, Kansas, Baptist College,
UMass and UNLV (where he was head coach from
1995-2000 and is the third-winningest coach in
school history).
After UNLV, Bayno coached in two pro basketball
minor leagues (ABA, CBA) and in the Philippine
Basketball Association before joining McMillan’s staff
in 2005. In 2008-09, he returned to the college
ranks as head coach at Loyola Marymount, then rejoined McMillan in Portland in 2009.
DAN BURKE
Assistant Coach
Dan Burke is in his 28th year in professional
basketball and his 20th season with the Pacers,
currently making him the longest tenured assistant
coach with the same team in the NBA. During his first
eight seasons with the Pacers the 57-year-old
(4/3/59) had served as assistant coach and
scouting director.
Prior to joining the Pacers, Burke spent eight
years with the Portland Trail Blazers (1989-1997) as
video coordinator and scout. At one point during his
NBA career, Burke was fortunate enough to be with
teams that made the NBA playoffs for 17 straight
years. While in Portland the Trail Blazers competed
in two NBA Finals (1990 and 1992) and three
consecutive Western Conference finals.
With Indiana, Burke enjoyed being part of teams
that advanced to five Eastern Conference Finals and
an appearance in the 2000 NBA Finals. Burke has
been fortunate to work with a variety of coaches
including Larry Bird, Rick Carlisle, Rick Adelman, Mike
Brown, PJ Carlesimo, Isiah Thomas, Jim O’Brien and
Frank Vogel.
Born in Lynwood, Calif., Burke calls Sherwood,
Ore., home. He graduated from Portland State with a
bachelor’s degree in history and in social science. He
enjoys time with his family, various outdoor
activities, fishing, traveling, & reading.
Burke is married to Peggy and they have two
daughters, Melissa and Lindsey.
POPEYE JONES
Assistant Coach
Popeye Jones is in his fourth season as a Pacers’
assistant coach after having spent his post-NBA
career the three previous years with the
Brooklyn/New Jersey Nets (one season in player
development, two as an assistant coach) and the
Dallas Mavericks in player development.
The 46-year-old Jones (6/17/70) played
collegiately at Murray State, where he ranks fourth
on the school’s all-time scoring list, first in
rebounding, led the nation in rebounding in 1990-91
and had his number (54) retired. He was a 1992
second-round pick of the Houston Rockets, who
traded his rights to Dallas. He played one season in
Italy before joining the Mavericks in 1993 and ended
up playing with Toronto, Boston, Denver, Washington
and Golden State before retiring in 2004.
Jones was inducted in the Tennessee Sports Hall of
Fame in May, 2014.
He has three sons, Justin, Seth and Caleb. Seth
plays with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National
Hockey League and is regarded as one of the top
young prospects in the sport, and Caleb was drafted
in the fourth round by Edmonton.
DAVID McCLURE

Pacers as Player Development Coach.
The 30-year-old McClure played collegiately at Duke
from 2005-09.He played professionally in the DLeague for one season and four years in Lithuania.
He has spent the last two seasons with the San
Antonio Spurs in player development.
