Crayfish dissection

Crayfish dissection: Using the dissection guide provided and teacher instruction, locate each of the structures listed. As you remove them, tape each structure to a piece of paper, labeled. External anatomy: 1. uropod 2. telson (just the flat flap) 3. abdominal segments (only cut off the exoskeleton!) DO NOT REMOVE UNTIL DAY TWO 4. cephalothorax (Only cut off the exoskeleton as demonstrated –remember to add the region of the head) DO NOT REMOVE UNTIL DAY TWO 5. cervical groove (label this with an arrow on your cephalothorax) 6. walking legs 7. cheliped 8. compound eye 9. rostrum 10. swimmerets 11. determine if you have a male or female Continue with the structures around the head 11. anntenule 12. antennae Locate the feeding structures. 13. Mandibles 14. Maxillipeds Internal structures of the crayfish: 1. Gills 2. Heart w/ostia 3. digestive glands 4. stomach w/teeth (open up and expose teeth) 5. intestine w/rectum (rectum is the enlarge chamber before anus) 6. green glands (tucked up in the “cheeks”) 7. ventral nerve cord w/ ganglia (tiny white strand)
