A summary of the latest enhancements
to PatBase and PatBase Express
Export settings saved between sessions
A new capability has been implemented in PatBase to remember the last export conducted, even after a
user has logged off from PatBase. Whenever any data is being exported from PatBase, the export module
remembers the previous selections and pre-selects these options for you. This will make the process of
exporting data from PatBase much more efficient, especially for users who regularly export data in the
same format and with the same fields.
Furthermore, the option to include a link to the legal status timeline has been added for Excel exports.
New 3rd party format added to Export module – Rapid4
Users of Centredoc-Rapid4 can now seamlessly export their PatBase results into Rapid4, the business
intelligence platform produced by the Swiss company Centredoc.
Ability to delete or archive multiple folders
Users are now able to select one or more private folders in PatBase; making it possible for users to delete
or archive multiple private folders at the same time, removing the time-consuming process of manually
deleting or archiving each folder individually.
Similar function enhanced in PatBase
The Similar function in PatBase has recently been enhanced to allow users to take advantage of the NonPatent Literature (NPL) data accessible in PatBase. The “Similar Non-Patent Literature” function now links
to the NPL module in PatBase where a user will be presented with similar NPL from over 12 sources. In
addition, users have the ability to further refine this data set by using the search fields available in this
module.
Furthermore, a new “Prior Art” option has been added to the Similar search function for each patent
family. Users can now search for similar Prior Art in the NPL module and the results will be limited by
publication year (based on the earliest priority date).
Type-ahead functionality added to the PatBase Quick Search
A new functionality has been added to the Quick Search option in PatBase. Users can benefit from autosuggested terms, generated by PatBase, which may be relevant to their search strategy.
Tooltips added to all classification codes
Now, when a PatBase user is reviewing a patent family they can roll their mouse over the classification
code to show the description for that code.
Enhanced Advanced Highlighting
Users can now load the keywords from their original search strategy to the advanced highlighting boxes.
This enables users to edit or enhance the keywords being used in the basic highlighting in PatBase.
New fields added to the query builder
The following fields have been added to the Query Builder function in PatBase:
• Probable Patent Assignee
• Agent
• Priority Country
Enhanced zoom function
There is now an enhanced zoom option for images within a patent document so that users can examine
the images in greater detail and can even rotate the images.
PatBase Express Enhancements
Enhancements to PatBase Thesaurus
Thesaurus-based search strategies can now be saved and appear in the “Previous Search” list. This
allows users to combine Thesaurus-based search strategies with other searches in the “Advanced
Search” and “Boolean Search” pages.
PatBase Express users can also use the “Optimise” function for Thesaurus-based search strategies to
narrow down search results by company, technology, publication date and country.
PatentArchive and PatBase Express searches can now be combined
Within the PatBase Express platform, PatentArchive users can now combine PatentArchive searches with
PatBase Express searches. This provides significant benefits for our PatentArchive users as they can
maximise the benefits of using customised taxonomies within PatentArchive with the power of searching
across multiple fields in PatBase Express.
