Have a great week. Mr Stan Tiatia Written by students or staff? Weekly catch up… Room 1…have been learning all about flight…. Dear Bird, can I have your wings because I like to fly. I live in a nest far away it has a roof in case it rains. By Charlize Dear Bird, guess why i want to fly for? Because I want to go to the beach and lie down. By Falcon Dear Bird, can I please have your wings then I can fly everywhere. By Maddie Dear Bird, can I please borrow your wings for a wee minute so I can fly to the swimming pool. By Sam Room 2… went to listen to Mr Esler. Kenny thought the story about the Weka was cool. “I’ll tell you one thing I know about birds, they have air in their bodies and they use their feet to carry them up in the air” said Justin Room 3…really enjoyed listening to Mr. Esler talk about bones and feathers and creatures that fly. Bird's bones are hollow and extremely light so that they can lift off, soar and glide through the air. Wind helps them to move through the air. Mr. Esler has an amazing collection of skeletons. He even had an albatross wing! Their wing span can be up to 3 metres!! He brought along a tiny humming bird, a bat, and a weather balloon. Mr. Esler told us funny jokes. We had fun and learned about flight at the same time! Room 4 … this week we are learning about flies, how they fly and what they have. Our word of the week is regurgitate. Do you know what that means? We wrote a description about a time we regurgitated. If you are squeamish you may not want to read this! The Trail of Disgustingness Grrrr! As my tummy rumbled in my sleep in my dark, dark room. Suddenly I let out a …BURP! I stared down. I saw the most disgusting sight. PUKE! YUCK! I quickly scampered down the hall. "Turn into mum's room", I said to myself in horror. I could not speak because I was leaving a trail of puke behind me. "Mum," I tried saying. "It's not morning," Mum yawned. I went close to mum, then I poked her. "What," Mum demanded, "Oh no" She got out of bed. I was staring at the puke. It had bits of food that looked like lasange, potato and especially cheese. Mum cleaned me up straight away. I think you can still see the trail, but it's a stain. By Bree. My Disgusting Moment "Good night," my dad whispered softly as he tucked me in gently. As I snuggled down my brother Sabin turned off the light. I started to read my favourite book. Geronimo Stilton and the Case of the Cheese, it's the best. As I started to read I felt my tummy rumble. "It's just the KFC settling down," I thought. But it wasn't…Nek Minute…I saw spew all over my bedroom floor. It was dreadful and shocking all together. "DAD!" I called. He came zipping, his hair almost on fire. "Don't ask any questions. Just clean it up," I yelled, snuggling back down. By Brooklyn. Room 5…this week went to see Mr Esler to learn all about flight and our Kapahaka group have been working hard on their songs and will perform at this weeks Assembly. By Kurtis Wow!! You’ll never guess what happened on Friday! I will give you 3 clues. The first clue is, three of our Year 6’s represented Avenal. The second clue is, you would of seen Lara, Melody and myself on the court. And the final clue is, yes you would of heard in Assembly…yes you guessed it, we had a Year 6 Netball tournament for Avenal. We won 5 games and lost 1 game. I had war scars afterwards. By Ryah The Avenal team have finished their zones. On Friday it started when…huffing and puffing …yes we were in! Practising was cool! It got exhausting. We all trained hard and we came 4th out of 15th. It was a top effort. By Lara Flying is exciting fun. Landing like an aeroplane. Insects moving. Glide across the sky. Helicopter gliding through the air. Take off like a rocket. By Kayla Room 6…have been looking at flight and how four forces are required to create flight. We have also looked at the difference between flight, gliding and falling. We wrote these poems about leaves falling and gliding in the wind. Bilingual Snippets When learning two languages it is now understood that the two languages are separate but come together in what the bilingual person understands about language. This means that if the two languages are both well developed, they do not mix and interfere with each other in the bilingual person. Bu iki dil iki iyi gelişmiş ise, onlar karıştırmak ve iki dilli kişi birbirleriyle müdahale anlamına gelir. Bilinguals are not two monolingual rolled up in one. They know and use one language to support, enrich and compare with the other. There is an integration between the two languages. Autumn As the leaves twist and turn, some dance and prance, As they bend and turn, they see a little white deer running near. Leaves tangle from trees, Air is blowing them everywhere. By Jarrod Sorun bu haber bülteni gelip Bayan D ile konuşun okuma varsa Autumn Secret The leaves start falling one by one, sinking down like the sun. They dance down to the ground, swirling through the air going round and round. The swirling colours of the leaves, falling down as they please. Leaves are stars shining bright, tumbling down day and night. As the leaves hear a song, they love to dance right along. The song they hear is by the moon, they hope Autumns not over soon. By Lillian Hockey The draw for the next 2 weeks is 4.20pm on 21 August and 4.55pn on 28 August. You can also check the draw on the Hockey website http://hockeysouthland.co.nz/Competitions/Invercargill-Primary-School Room 7… Wow, this week in room 7 we have been learning the difference between gliding and flying. Does a paper plane fly or glide? It glides because you have to throw it. Does an airplane fly or glide? It flies because it has its own power, and that power comes from the huge big motor engine. By Sid If your child brings yoghurt to school please supply them with a spoon, and a fork and cup for noodles. Hey, do you know what room 7 have been making? Paper planes that can glide smoothly down to the ground. We have also been learning about flight. We made posters about stuff that can fly in the sky, but nothing like hang gliders. There are new things on our blog too. Check it out. By Raeffe
