English IV
Choose one of the following assignments for your project. Read and follow the directions
carefully. This assignment counts as a TEST grade. Due Date: TBA
1.
Children’s story: Retell the events in Beowulf as a children's story. The book should
be illustrated in COLOR. All art should be drawn by hand. The book should cover all
the main highlights of the poem. Story should include, but not be limited to: Grendel’s
attack on Herot, Beowulf sailing to Denmark, Beowulf’s meeting with King Hrothgar,
Beowulf’s fight with Grendel, B’s fight with Grendel’s mother, B’s fight with the dragon,
the end of Beowulf. The book should include an illustrated cover and a title page. The
book should include two epithets, two kennings, and two examples of alliteration. Make
sure to keep story appropriate for elementary children.
2. Comic Book: Create an original comic book illustrating the high points of Beowulf.
Illustrations should be full color and dialogue bubbles should be used. See Children’s
story for guidelines of what to include.
3.
Create a rap/song about Beowulf. Record it on a CD to play for the class. Include a
written copy of the lyrics. The rap should include two kennings, two epithets, and two
examples of alliteration. All important parts of the poem (see children’s story) should be
included. The rap should have a minimum of 50 lines.
4. Create a newspaper outlining the major events in Beowulf. Write articles and include
appropriate pictures (hand or computer-drawn animated). The newspaper needs to have
an original name and should include the following: editorial, obituary, advertisement,
news article, sports section, entertainment section, art/health section.
A large portion of your grade will be based on creativity, neatness, and originality. This
project requires thought, planning, and effort.
All assignments MUST be original. Any form of plagiarism will result in a 0. No makeup will be allowed for plagiarized work.
