Horizons Creates Person-Centered
Opportunities!
Margo Meley’s dream of reinventing herself has come true. Here’s
Margo smack in the middle of her cheerleading squad during the halftime performance at a recent UCONN Women’s Soccer game. With the
Horizons Supported Living team behind her, Margo landed a spot on
the QV Spirit Squad sponsored by the Special Olympics and Unified
Partners. Wearing the uniform and leading the cheers are a dream
come true for Margo.
Benjamin Campen sampled many jobs as a transitioning student at
RHAM High School while supported by Horizons Educational Support
Services. But none were what he really wanted to do, as he always saw
himself working in an office. Now Benjamin works at his dream job, as
the Horizons Receptionist, where he greets visitors, answers phones,
produces employee name badges and shoulders a variety of general office
support responsibilities.

After dating for several
years, soul mates Bin and
Kelly Hartigan dreamed of
the day they would marry.
With support from
Horizons, Bin and Kelly
married on a beautiful fall
day and then set up a
lovely home at Art Space
in Willimantic. Bin and
Kelly happily celebrated
their third-year wedding
anniversary this October
with a fantastic trip to
Providence, RI.

We are very grateful for our long-standing partnership with
the SBM Charitable Foundation. This summer the Foundation’s
support for “The Swim, Ride and Explore in Summer 2013
Project” ensured campers had the maximum opportunities to
experience success and learn new skills while swimming,
riding horses and boating. The SBM Charitable Foundation
once again guaranteed the excellence people have come to
expect from Horizons and provided campers with the breath
of fresh air so important to their quality of life. Thank you,

Thank You American Savings Foundation
A generous grant from the American Savings Foundation supported “Seating
Solutions for Positive Programming 2013-2014.” Many of the summer camp
activities take place in various outdoor “classroom” settings, each with a
concrete floor and a roof, open on three sides, much like a picnic pavilion in a
state park. With this grant from the Foundation we are now able to purchase
new rugged, well-built, durable bench and table combos and chairs for these
outdoor classrooms.
