Grammar Skill: (Review Week)
Complete Sentences – have a subject and a
predicate.
Simple Sentences – have a subject and
predicate, and express one complete thought;
begin with a capital letter and end with an end
mark.
Compound Sentences – made up of several
simple sentences joined together. Usually, it is
made from two sentences joined by a comma
and the word and, but, or or.

Nouns – name a person, place, thing, animal,
or idea.
Common Nouns – any person, place, or thing.
Examples: man, library, bicycle
Proper Nouns – names of particular people,
animals, places, or things.

Abbreviations – a shortened form of a word or
phrase that is used in place of the whole word
or phrase.
Abbreviations for People & Places – People’s
titles are written with 1 capital letter and a
period; States abbreviations are 2 capital
letters and no periods; Examples: Mr. (Mister),
Mrs. (Mistress, but usually pronounced
Misses), St. (street), Pl. (place), Ave. (avenue),
Abbreviations for Days and Months – each
abbreviation begins with a capital letter and
ends with a period; Examples: Mon. (Monday);
Tues. (Tuesday); Wed. (Wednesday); Thurs.
(Thursday); Fri. (Friday); Sat. (Saturday); Sun.
(Sunday); Jan. (January); Feb. (February);
Mar. (March); Apr. (April); May; June; July;
Aug. (August); Sept. (September); Oct.
(October); Nov. (November); Dec. (December)

Singular Nouns – name 1 person, place, thing,
animal, or idea.
Plural Nouns – name more than 1 person,
place, thing, animal, or idea. Most are formed
by adding an -s to the end. Add an -es if the
noun ends with a ch, x, sh, or a vowel. If the
word ends with a y, change the y to an i and
add -es.
Robust Vocabulary Words/Definitions:
1. Investigate – when you investigate
something, you try to find out the truth about it.
2. Expert – an expert is someone who knows
a lot about a certain subject.
3. Laboratory – a place where experiments are
done is a laboratory.

4. Various – when there are various objects,
there are objects of different types.
5. Suspect – when you suspect someone of
doing something, you think that person has
done it.
6. Confess – when you confess, you tell the
truth about something you did wrong.
7. Perplexed – when you are perplexed about
something, you are confused about it.
8. Inquisitive – if you are inquisitive about
something, you are curious about it.
9. Inviting – if something looks inviting, you
want to take part in it or have something to do
with it.
10. Amusing – if something is fun or funny, it is
amusing.
Use Reference Sources:
Dictionary – gives definitions and
pronunciations of words. Words in dictionaries
are arranged alphabetically.
Encyclopedia – gives information about many
topics. Often comes in volumes that are kept
in alphabetical order. Entries are also
arranged alphabetically.
Thesaurus – lists synonyms, or words similar in
meaning. It might also list antonyms. Words
are arranged alphabetically.
Atlas – a book of maps. Might also include
information on places and people around the
world.

Science: Where Living Things Are Found
Focus Skills: (Review Week)
Fact and Opinion:
Fact – something that can be seen or proven.
Math Skills:
Opinion – a person’s thoughts or feelings.

Main Idea and Details:
Monday – Multiplication
Main Idea – the most important idea in a
paragraph; often found in the first or last
sentence of a paragraph, but can be found in
the middle. Sometimes it must be figured out
using the details in the paragraph.
Wednesday – Ch. 4 Test (first 3 pages)
Details – facts and statements that support and
explain the main idea.
Skills and Strategies: (Review Week)
Synonyms & Antonyms:
Synonyms – words that mean almost the same
thing.
Antonyms – words that have opposite
meanings.
