NEWSLETTER
Dear Jaguar Parents and Students,
I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying the last few weeks of summer and looking forward to September 1st and the
start of the 2016-17 school year. Our start-up newsletter includes all of the “dates, times and places” needed to get
your child’s year underway. Please reference this newsletter if you have questions regarding athletic report dates, school
start-up items or general school information. All students will report to school at 7:28am on the first day of school and will follow a
standard day bell schedule. A couple of important themes I would like to share as we begin a new year include:
Partnerships — A staple at AHS is the amount of parent involvement given our academic and co-curricular programs. We welcome and encourage your participation in the Jaguar Backers, Ashwaubenon Music Parents (AMPA), Parent Network and all of
the great groups that support our students and are in place at AHS.
Communication — Open lines of communication build strong school-home partnerships. Please keep communication lines open
with staff and administration to best meet your child’s needs throughout the school year.
In closing, I would like to wish a special welcome to the Class of 2020 and all those who are new to the Ashwaubenon Learning Community. If you have any questions regarding the start of the new school year, please give me a call at (920) 492-2955, ext. 5334. In
the meantime, enjoy the last days of summer.
Go Jaguars!

2016-17 REQUIRED STUDENT E-REGISTRATION PROCESS
New This Year! All Ashwaubenon High School families are required to take care of various registration items prior to the start of the school year via the district’s new E-Registration process.
Detailed information was recently sent to all parent/guardian emails on record in PowerSchool.
Information will not be sent home through the postal mail.
Grades 11 & 12*
Tuesday, August 16
Between 1:00-6:00pm
Grades 9 & 10*
Wednesday, August 17
Most of the paperwork that has been required in the past is now available to view, complete and
electronically “sign” online through E-Registration via the PowerSchool Parent Login. This new
process also allows you to provide or decline annual “permissions” pertaining to such things as
Chromebook rental, student parking permits, etc. Parents/guardians who do not have access to
a computer should call the high school.
Between 1:00-6:00pm
Parents/Guardians should be sure to complete the E-Registration process before the student
registration events on August 16 and 17. On those dates, students will receive their class sched*If student is unable to come on assigned day, either day is permissible.

it out (please see Chromebook rental requirements on page 2 of this newsletter or in the registration materials in PowerSchool E-Registration). High School course fees will not be assessed
until after school begins, so payment for course fees cannot be accepted during the registration sessions.
Students should keep in mind that the class schedule they receive on August 16 or 17 is the only one they will get. They must
bring this schedule with them on the first day of school.

Welcome Class of 2020!!
Jaguar LINK Jump-start
Wednesday, August 17, 2016
8:00 am—1:00 pm
Incoming freshmen at Ashwaubenon High School should plan to attend “Jaguar LINK Jump-Start,” a high school
transition program to welcome freshmen and make them feel comfortable throughout their first year of high
school. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, your freshman will be in a small group with
trained LINK Leaders from the junior and/or senior class. As positive role models, LINK Leaders are motivators and
leaders who guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during their transition to high school.
Jaguar LINK Jump-Start will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 8:00-1:00. All incoming freshmen
should be in the Ashwaubenon High School small gym at 8:00 a.m. The program will include lunch for all students
and will conclude at 1:00 p.m.
Freshmen & new student
Orientation
Wednesday, August 24, 2016
6:30 pm
Ashwaubenon High School also holds a mandatory freshmen and new
student orientation session each year to provide parents and students
with more comprehensive information about the Ashwaubenon Learning Community. This session will be held on Wednesday, August 24,
2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school fieldhouse. All freshmen and new
students are required to attend with a parent/guardian.
Chromebook Checkout for 2016-17
Please remember that all high school students are required to have a fully-charged device (laptop,
Chromebook, or tablet) at school each day for use in the classroom. Sophomore, junior and senior students who are renting a school Chromebook can check them out at back-to-school events planned
for August 16 and 17. Please note that Chromebooks for freshmen students will be checked out once
school actually begins.
In order for a school Chromebook to be issued, please be sure you have taken care of the following BEFORE lining up
for Chromebook checkout:
 Payment of annual $75 tech fee has been made or has been waived through completed and approved Free and Re-
duced lunch application paperwork
 Digital or paper copy of parent contract/permission slip has been signed/submitted
 Payment for previous damages to any equipment or Chromebook (listed in PowerSchool) has been made
These items must be taken care of in advance in order for students to avoid lining up for a device that can't be checked
out due to incomplete permissions, etc. Thanks for helping us avoid people waiting in line needlessly.
Calculator Requirements for Math and Science Courses
High school math courses require the use of a TI-84 calculator – starting with the freshman year. Advanced science courses require a graphing calculator (TI-84 or TI-84 Silver or Plus). Students are urged
to put their name on their calculator in some type of permanent identification, keeping the calculator in
a safe place when not in use. (Suggestion: Students may want to purchase one prior to the start of the
school year during the back-to-school sales, rather than wait until later in the school year or when second semester starts.)

Student Parking Update
We do not anticipate the parking limitations we experienced last year at Ashwaubenon High School. For the
start of the school year, student parking will be limited to the large lot in front of the building, away from the
construction site. Parking is by permit only and we expect that all Juniors and Seniors who would like to purchase a parking permit will be able to. Parking permits will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis beginning
with Juniors and Seniors, and will be issued in conjunction with our E-Registration process.
Parents/Guardians must enter various required parking permit information and electronically grant permission for the purchase
of the permit in E-Registration prior to the August 16 & 17 registration events. Then, during the registration events on August 16
& 17, those students may bring in payment of $50.00 and receive their permit. No need to print and bring in the application, as
the information will be stored in PowerSchool.
We expect to have some permits available for Sophomores to purchase after August 17. Parents/Guardians should complete the
Permit information in E-Registration. Sophomore students then may bring in payment during the registration events, with the permit held until we know the number of permits available for sale. Sophomore Permits will be handled on a first-come, first-served
basis after August 17.
Ashwaubenon School District Parents/Guardians,
As approved by the Board of Education and initially implemented during the 2015-16 school year, all students will be
assessed a textbook/supply fee as follows: $50.00 for high school students, $40 for middle school students and $30 for
elementary students (Grades 4K-5). Free lunch students will automatically have this textbook/supply fee waived. Reduced lunch students will automatically have this textbook/supply fee reduced by 50%. More information and how to
apply for the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program is posted on our website at www.ashwaubenon.k12.wi.us/
mealaccountforms.cfm. Note: you must apply for the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program each school year.
Once this fee, meal fees and other student fees are assessed, parents can pay online.
Ashwaubenon High School Student/Parent Handbook available online!
The Student/Parent Handbook has valuable information regarding school policies and procedures, as well
as co-curricular activities. It is a great tool to reference throughout the school year. The 2016-17 handbook can be found on the AHS Website at: http://www.ashwaubenon.k12.wi.us/highschool/
newsletters_publications.cfm. Limited paper copies will be available in the main office.
www.ashwaubenon.k12.wi.us

School personnel cannot administer non-prescription or prescription medications without a completed
parent request form and a health care provider request form (when needed) on file. In addition, students who need to carry an inhaler must have an authorization form on file in the office. All of these
forms can be found on the Ashwaubenon District website at www.ashwaubenon.k12.wi.us. Click on
Pupil Services/Special Education, then Health Related Information. All non-prescription and prescription medication must be kept in the high school attendance/health office. With the exception of an
asthma inhaler and/or epinephrine auto-injector that has the proper paperwork on file, students may not carry medication with them. Parents should contact the high school attendance/
health office at 492-2950 with questions.
STUDENT LOCKERS
Ashwaubenon High School provides hall lockers and Physical Education lockers for the convenience of students. Some hall
lockers have built-in combination locks; students assigned to those lockers will be issued a locker number and combination.
Other lockers use combination padlocks. Students assigned to these lockers will be required to purchase a school-issued
lock or use the lock they purchased while at Parkview. Hall locker assignments will be provided on student schedules, which
will be distributed at the student registration sessions being held in August. Students may only use school-issued locks on
lockers.
Students who wish to receive credit for community service hours completed from January through June 2016
may submit community service verification forms through September 30, 2016. Students are urged to take advantage of this grace period before it expires. After September 30, community service verification forms will
only be accepted if hours were completed during the school calendar year, which runs from July 1, 2016 to June
30, 2017. Part of the responsibility associated with performing community service is to complete the necessary
paperwork in a timely fashion. Community Service forms can be found on the high school website under Newsletters,
Publications and Forms or they can be picked up from the high school main office as needed.
Youth Options Program Guidelines
The Youth Options Program was established to allow 11th and 12th grade students, who meet certain requirements, to take
courses at a University of Wisconsin institution, a Wisconsin technical college, or one of the state’s participating private, nonprofit
institutions of higher education. Students must meet institutional criteria for Youth Options admissions as determined by each
participating post-secondary school.
By September 19, 2016, for the 2016-17 spring semester, and by February 7, 2017, for the 2017-18 fall semester, students must
notify the school board of their intention to participate in the program. The participating student must be enrolled in a public
school. For more information regarding the Youth Options Program, please contact your AHS counselor.
Bus Transportation
The school buses will be running the approximate routes as last year, with Lamers Bus Lines once again providing our
transportation needs. Students will be dropped off in the morning and will be picked up in front of the high school
small commons after school.
 If you are new to the district or have a question concerning bus number, pick-up times, etc., please contact
Lamers Bus Lines at 496-3600.
 If there should be other questions or concerns, please call Mr. Keith Lucius at 492-2905, ext. 1005.
 It is important to note that busses will be at AHS as soon as the bell rings at 2:48 pm. Busses will then leave the AHS parking lot by 2:55 pm. Students riding the bus must get to the small commons area for bus pick up directly after school.
 Parents are reminded not to block the front driveway for other vehicles that need to pass through. Students waiting for
their parents to pick them up are to wait in the small commons area, and should leave the front entrance area open for visitors.

PLEASE, Keep your Email Address(es) Up-to-Date!
Email addresses that parents enter and maintain in PowerSchool are also used by SchoolMessenger, our emergency notification system, and for many other communications, including reports of snow days. Our use of email to communicate with parents continues to
expand, so we ask that you please enter at least one email address for each of your children in PowerSchool. Parents have the ability and the responsibility to update their email address(es) when they change.
Sign in to PowerSchool as a parent
Once signed in, if you linked multiple students to your
account, you’ll be able to switch between them by clicking on
their name button.
Email Notification (per Child)
For each child you’ve added to your account, click Email Notification from the list of Navigation icons in the left margin.
Here you can set what information PowerSchool sends you via
email, and how often.
Enter at least one email address for each of your children in the
‘Email Addresses To Receive School/District Communications’
field.
The ‘Parent Account Email Address’ is the address you’ll need to
recover your Username or Password in case you lose either of
those.
NOTE: The ‘Email Addresses To Receive School/District Communications’ are the addresses used to communicate to parents. So,
enter AT LEAST ONE email address here. You should typically enter the Parent Account Email Address (above) here in addition to
any other email accounts (home, work, spouse). Separate multiple emails with a comma (,). The addresses entered here are specific to
each student so you should replicate this field for each child listed under your Parent account.
Since the ‘Email Addresses To Receive School/District Communications’ field is attached to a student, that field is shared by anyone
who has that student on their account. So in split family situations, we ask you to please respect each other’s desire to receive student
and school/district communications.
Click the Submit button to save any changes you made on this screen.
