TRAVELLING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ST PAUL
“Do not be afraid to speak out, nor allow yourself to be silenced: I am with you.”
Acts 18:1 – 17
Term 4 / Week 4
Thursday, 30th October 2014
I am very keen to share my pilgrimage experience with this community but like so many of my fellow pilgrims, I am struggling to put the enormity of the experience into words. In this Transmitter, I will try to
describe the experience I had in Greece during the first part of the pilgrimage.

St Paul established the early Christian Church in Greece on the second and third of his four evangelising
journeys. For our group and our journey, we spent four days travelling from Corinth in the south all the
way to Phillipi in the north. We visited many of the places where St Paul would ignite the faith in his initial
journey and then encourage it to grow through his letters and ongoing communication. Corinth, Athens,
Thessaloniki and Phillipi all gave me an understanding of the enormous mission undertaken by St Paul. I
was exhausted travelling on a luxury coach, he had to do it on foot, donkey and boat. Despite the challenge
of distance, St Paul remained resolute to the mission of taking Christ’s message to communities far and
wide. Despite the challenge of bringing new, different and sometimes unpopular views to these communities, St Paul persevered.
Fr Chris DeSouza who travelled with us, challenged each person to identify and reflect on a ‘word of the
day’ throughout the pilgrimage. In Greece my words were;
Vocation – Journey – Tranquility – Peace.

Blessed are the saints when they are sad because the world is so unfair,
They have God’s promise that justice will come.
Blessed are the saints whose greatest wish is to do what God desires.
God will give them what they want.
Blessed are the saints who treat other people gently,
God will treat them gently.
Blessed are the saints who persevere to do what God requires,
For they are surely among God’s saints.
3pm - Pick Up
If you enter the school gates before 3pm to pick up your child we would like to remind all parents to please
wait at the designated parent pick up area which is on the grassed area outside the Year 5 classrooms.
This area is away from the front doors of all other classrooms. This makes it easier and quicker for the
teachers to get the children to parent pick up and eliminates distractions in the classroom during the final
part of the day.
If you do need to take your child home before 3pm, you will need to obtain a partial absence slip from the
office. This is for legal and duty of care reasons.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated

What is Remembrance Day?
Remembrance Day is on 11th November. It is a special day set aside to remember
all those men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts.
At one time the day was known as Armistice Day and was renamed Remembrance Day
after the Second World War.
The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice,
on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One.
At 11:00 am on 11th November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four
years continuous warfare.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
Fourth stanza of 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyon (1869 - 1943)
We invite our families and friends to join us as a school community in the school hall at 10:30am on Tuesday 11 th November to acknowledge Remembrance Day. It will be led by our Year One learning groups.

would also be worth checking "The Joan" at Penrith when they publish their Summer program.
Kindergarten 2015 Orientation
Today we held our second Kindergarten orientation session to prepare our new kinder kids for 2015. As you would expect, there was a
lot of energy and excitement as the boys and girls explored the classrooms and began cementing friendships that will hopefully last
them a lifetime. We also welcomed their parents and families into our community as they begin or continue their journey with us.
Thank you to all the staff and Mamre Team members who made this introduction to Trinity so special.

Dear Parents and Caregivers
Last Monday at the Staff Professional Learning Day, teachers were engaged in learning and discussions about the qualities of effective
writing practices, to improve students writing experiences and achievement. A specific area that the teachers are focusing on this term
that you can support at home while writing is paragraphing.
After writing correct sentences, knowing how to write a strong paragraph is the first step in creating a successful piece of writing.
A paragraph is a collection of sentences related to a single point or idea. The structure of a basic paragraph includes a topic sentence
and supporting sentences that help develop that idea. It’s also important for paragraphs to be well organised and coherent so that the
reader can easily follow your writing.
A paragraph needs specific types of sentences to be effective and well written. The first sentence students need to compose is the topic
sentence, which is a thought-provoking and captivating introduction to what the paragraph will be about. Once a topic sentence is written, students should include three to five supporting sentences. Each of these sentences will further describe or introduce details of the
topic sentence. For example, if a student is writing about dogs, the topic sentence might introduce the idea that children can help take
care of the family dog. The supporting sentences would each cover a certain aspect of that care, such as feeding the dog, taking the dog
for walks and playing with the dog. The last sentence in the paragraph should tie all the information together, and is called the
concluding sentence.

Literacy Hint
Numeracy Hint
Show your child how you use reading.
Comment frequently on how handy it is to be able to
read a recipe, follow instructions and read road signs.
Cooking with your child is a great opportunity to discuss measurement of
ingredients and to count items. Using a timer can help your child to
understand concepts of time.
