What does it mean for you to be a
Big Sky H.O.G.
Member?
What keeps you an on
going member of
the Harley Owner
Group (HOG)?
Is it the on going
benefit's of the
ABC of touring book,
the HOG national
magazine, the road side service, State Rallies, the dealership and
HOG events and rides or is it something more? The sense of
belonging to a group of like minded individuals who have a passion
for Harley - Davidsons? Is it the deep seeded friendships that you
have developed with other members local or abroad ?
Whatever keeps you a member of Big Sky HOG, you are the ones
who make this chapter! You all bring different strengths and unique
talents to make this a GREAT chapter.
I thrive on seeing each of you connect with your machine and each
other! It’s a very cool thing! - Brian M

Please let’s not mention “it’s been a great riding season” or “man seems like just yesterday I was planning some summer events”. I don’t want to hear it. Over the years some of
my best memories have been rides and trips in the fall. The fall colors are off the chart!!
The crisp morning air!! The open roads. This is the best time of the year to see the national parks because the heavy traffic has gone back home, school has started, camp grounds
are open, hotel rates have dropped, and retail shops are glad to see you. Sure it’s a little
cooler but that’s what your leathers are for. Gear up!! Get out!!! Enjoy this beautiful state
that we are blessed to call home. Let the adventures begin, not wind down. I can honestly say I have rode every month of the year here in beautiful BIG SKY MONTANA!!!!!!
Chins up!!! It’s never over till you say it is. LOL Mick, Chapter Director
Fall is here and that has implications for bikers. The sun comes up later and sets
earlier. That means our planned rides will start later and we may be returning in the
dark. At the same time, Fall is the time of year our four-legged friends need to forage
longer to gain weight to get through the Winter. This means more critters on the
road at night. The new LED headlights are great and extend night visibility to avoid
these risks. However, LED's are only standard equipment on motorcycles made in the
last 2-3 years. If your bike is older, just slow down and take your time. If you ride in
groups, space your bikes further apart to maintain control if another rider hits an
animal in front of you.
Poker run stops should also be planned accordingly. Keep in mind that one drink or 12
oz. beer takes one hour to metabolize. Most of us will be over the BAC limit with
three to four drinks in two hours. If it takes one hour to metabolize each drink, and
your time is limited due to daylight restrictions, plan accordingly. Don't risk a DUI or
an accident. A recent insurance industry study reveals that the financial
consequences of a DUI costs nearly $20,000.00 in fines, legal fees, lost wages,
mandatory counseling, driving restrictions, and increased insurance premiums that
last for years! Please drink responsibly! - Mike Y, Safety Director
Dust off the mask, sew-up that costume and get ready for another fun filled evening of ghost,
goblins, and whatever else you dare to try. On Friday, October 30th, the Big Sky Chapter is hosting the annual WHO GOULS THERE event. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, best couples costumes, and a few other surprises. So dust off the mask's, sew up the costume and start
your creative juices flowing as we head into fall and other season of fun with your Big Sky Chapter.
After much thought, and some real soul searching, we have decided to push the toy run back
into December this year. Trying to get the community involved, the children geared up and allow Big Brother and Sisters to collect their thoughts after a busy summer, we have decided that
December was a better option. We normally try to plan this event around riding season, but the
last two years our attendance was down. In 2013 we had around 50 attendee's, and in 2014 there
were close to that same number. This year we are hosting the event back where it belongs:. In
December, at the Dealership following the December 12th meeting!.
With just eight weeks remaining until we "Fall Back" in time, we are all busy trying to plan the
final rides for this year. Please read the Hog Flashes from Sam, as well as the emails from Tina.
There is plenty of time left to ride and a lot of activities still available.
As we get closer to our events, I will keep you all posted on any changes . Until then, please
plan to attend the Children's Receiving Home poker Run on Sunday Sept 13th, the Halloween
party on Friday, October 30th, and the Toy run on Saturday December 12th.
Thanks for a great year. We hope you were able to take advantage of some of the events we offered and encourage your feedback.
Please feel free to contact any of us at any time, either in person or use the email links on the
web site. Let us know how we are doing and what we can do better. Jim, Activities Director
