Face Box A face box is a neat box that holds a digital photo frame. It’s a fun way to Artzooka your friends’ pictures! Check list: 1. a digital photo frame with a picture of your friend 2. large pieces of cardboard 3.scissors 4. wooden skewers (double the width of your photo frame) 5. white paper 6.pencil 1 7. sheets of clear acetate or any see-through plastic 8. black marker 9.straws 10. clear packing tape 11.pushpin To begin, measure the width of your 12.ruler digital photo frame. This measurement is important because the outside of the 13.glue face box (shown in the photo) must be 14. colourful bottle caps and construction paper a little more than double the width of your digital photo frame, in order for the acetate funny faces to easily slide into, then back out of, view. 3 4 5 Use a pencil to trace the outline of the digital photo frame screen on a white piece of paper. 8 Turn on the photo frame and trace a picture of your friend’s face. Press lightly! You don’t need much detail, just where the eyes, nose, and mouth are. Add more faces to the inside of your face box by repeating Steps 5 to 7. 11 Remove your drawing off of the digital photo frame. Place a sheet of acetate (about the same width as your digital photo frame) on top of your drawing. Use a black marker to draw a funny face. 9 Tip: Add tabs to the top of each acetate sheet so you know which face is which. Label the tabs with small pictures or words. 12 To make the inside of the face box, cut a piece of cardboard about 10 cm longer than the height of your digital photo frame. Fold the ends of the cardboard up, then stick wooden skewers into each end, just like in the photo. Cut a second piece of cardboard the same size as the first. Set aside both pieces of cardboard for now. 67 Note: the wooden skewers should be approximately double the width of your photo frame. Cut two straws the same width as the acetate sheet. Wrap clear packing tape around the straws and tape them to the top and bottom of the acetate. To make the outside of the face box, find (or cut) a piece of cardboard a little wider and taller than the inside of your face box (from Step 8). Place the picture you drew of your friend on top of the cardboard, near the side. Use a pushpin to poke a hole in each corner of the digital photo frame outline. Glue the cardboard (with the rectangle cut) to the front of the inside of the face box. Glue another piece of cardboard the same size (but without a rectangle cut!) on the back. 2 Artzooka your box with colourful decorations like bottle caps and stars. 10 Here is an example of what the inside of your face box should look like. Remove the paper and connect the dots with a pencil and ruler. You just drew a rectangle. Now cut it out. 13 14 Place your digital photo frame inside the box (at the Slide the funny acetate faces in back and behind the row of front of your friend’s picture! acetate funny faces). A face box lets you have a lot of fun with your friends even if they’re not there. Have fun Artzooka-ing your besties! Upload pictures of what YOU make at cbc.ca/kids/games/artzooka Take the cardboard and wooden skewers from Step 2. Slide the wooden skewers through the straws, then stick the other ends of the skewers into the second piece of cardboard.
