An important transformation
for Stockholm
Construction work on the new Slussen will begin
in 2013. Slussen will be transformed into one of
Stockholm’s most attractive meeting places, with

park. A safe and spacious bus terminal will be
built for commuters and there will be more space
for cyclists and pedestrians.

Stockholm and the Mälardalen region is growing
rapidly. The latest forecasts indicates a population
increase of 40 000 per year. By 2030 more than
one million people will be living in just the city of
Stockholm itself. This amazing expansion also puts
great pressure on accessibility, public services and
new housing. That is why there are currently some
30 large-scale developments and infrastructure
projects underway or being planned in Stockholm
– Slussen is one of the most important.

of thousands of people pass through Slussen
on a daily basis, but few choose to stop here.
Now Slussen is to be rebuilt as a place where
everyone will be interested in stopping to enjoy
the new spaces and facilities.

Stockholmers and tourists will be able to

What will the buildings look like?

The transformation of Slussen has been planned
for a long time and we are now approaching the
start of construction in 2013. Slussen will be an
interesting place to visit during construction, because of the special investment we have made in
cultural activities.
