ELEMENTS - found on the periodic table - cannot be broken down into simpler forms C EX 2. COMPOUNDS - when two or more elements combine O C O There are four kinds of mixtures 1. MECHANICAL MIXTURE - see all parts of the mixture - heterogeneous- doesn't look the same throughout - separated by hand, sieve 2. SOLUTION - homogeneous- appears the same throughout - one substance dissolved in another - aqueous solutions are when substances are dissolved in water - separated by distillation 3. SUSPENSION - homogenous - tiny particles are suspended in another substance - separated by filter 4. COLLOID - homogeneous - cloudy mixture, particles are so tiny, can't be filtered ourt September 29, 2011 Classification of Matter September 29, 2011
