November 10, 2015 Greetings! Recertification Help - Step 3 Category A vs B and entering CE into Learning Builder Here is our third communication to help guide you through the recertification process. You will learn about categorizing your CE activity and entering the activities into LearningBuilder. You will need to have already created your account in LearningBuilder to do this. Do you like visuals? Watch the short video on entering your CE into LearningBuilder. Category A vs. Category B 1. Take a look at all of the CE you have completed by printing out the certificates for each activity. This will help you organize and assess the current status of earning the required contact hours for recertification: ONC® - 100 contact hours of education (minimum 70 hours in clinical orthopaedics, up to 30 hours in general nursing) ONP-C® and OCNS-C® (advanced practice credential) - 125 contact hours of education (minimum 100 hours in clinical orthopaedics, up to 25 hours in general nursing) 2. Category A activities are SPECIFIC TO ORTHOPAEDICS. Click here for topics that are considered Category A content. 3. Category B - GENERAL NURSING CONTENT that is RELEVANT to ORTHOPAEDICS AND OTHER NURSING SPECIALTIES, too. This includes any content not suitable as Category A. 4. Activities that are GRAY AREAS include, trauma, spinal cord injury and rehabilitation. Click here for an explanation on how to appropriately categorize these types of activities. **Not sure if an activity is Category A or B? Ask us! Click here to submit a CE activity categorization request. **Do your best when categorizing and entering your CE into the Category A and Category B sections of LearningBuilder. When you submit your learning plan for recertification, we will adjust any content for you and explain the rationale in doing so. Step by step instructions for entering your CE activities in LearningBuilder 1. Open your learning plan and navigate to either "My Category A Continuing Education: Clinical Orthopaedics" or "My Category B Continuing Education: General Nursing" depending on the topic of the activity you wish to add. 2. Click on the blue button to the right that says, "Add CE Activity" 3. Determine the activity type using the list provided. Scroll down for more options. Choose "Home Study" for online articles from the NAON Journal and other CE vendors. Click the orange "Select" button next to that activity type. 4. A dialogue box will pop up to record the activity type you selected. Enter the full title of the activity as noted on the CE certificate, the date YOU COMPLETED the activity, the program sponsor, the city and state of the activity (where conference was held OTHERWISE TYPE IN YOUR CITY AND STATE IF HOME STUDY ACTIVITY, and number of contact hours awarded. 5. IF YOU WISH TO UPLOAD YOUR CERTIFICATE FOR THIS ACTIVITY (OPTIONAL) click on "Upload docs now (optional)" 6. IF YOU WISH TO UPLOAD YOUR CERTIFICATE AT A LATER TIME, click on "Save and finish later" 7. IF YOU WISH TO SUBMIT THE ACTIVITY WITHOUT UPLOADING YOUR CERTIFICATE, click on "Submit activity" 8. **Uploading your certificates to LearningBuilder is OPTIONAL. You will be required to submit your certificates ONLY if your application is selected for random audit. 9. Repeat steps 2-7 for entering each additional activity. Please note that lists of CE from online vendors are NOT accepted in lieu of entering each CE activity completed individually. EXCEPTION: Only the total Category A and B hours need to be entered for attendance at conferences, such as NAON Congress, which is designated on the certificate of attendance. Individual sessions attended during conferences do not need to be entered into LearningBuilder individually.
