THE BIKE-
On April 6, Dimitris Politis (DEREE ’90), started his
epic, 800 km bicycle ride from Thessaloniki through
Ioannina and Patras to our beautiful campus in
Aghia Paraskevi, where he will arrive on April 11.
Dimitris is taking a week off from his family and his banking position in Switzerland,
and will pay for all expenses for this Bike-A-Thon out of his own pocket, in order to
help us raise money for scholarships for students of The American College of Greece,
at a time when demand for financial aid is skyrocketing, due to the deep crisis
afflicting Greece.
As Dimitris has said repeatedly, he is doing this because he wants young people to
enjoy the quality education and opportunities that DEREE afforded him.
It is in this spirit that I call upon all of you to contribute to this effort by visiting
www.acg.edu/bikeathon or making a gift of any size – online at www.acg.edu/payments .
It is really easy, and it will make a BIG difference in a young person’s life. We have already raised over € 8,000
through hundreds of individual contributions and the sale of lottery tickets.
Now we hope that the ACG community, especially faculty and staff, will embrace this effort and help young men
and women join the ranks of ACG graduates.
Thank you for your consideration and support of this important endeavor!
For updates about Dimitris’ trip, videos and photos keep logging on to
www.acg.edu/bikeathon over the next few days.

ATHLETICS
Intercollegiate Athletics: A series of friendly games took place on April 2nd when the Schools of Evelpidon and Naftikon Dokimon
came to DEREE. Evelpidon challenged our Women’s and Men’s Volleyball team and lost the women’s 0-3 but won the men’s 3-0,
and Naftikon Dokimon went up against our Men’s Basketball team and lost 52-70. Although the Men’s Soccer team tied 2-2 in the
Commercial Super League Knock-Out game against Avin Oil they missed the fifth penalty shot, losing their chance to go to the finals.
Their next game will be a friendly game against the University of Piraeus, Tuesday, April 9th at 17:00. The Women’s Soccer team,
under the direction of their new coach, Spiros Gerakis, has begun playing exhibition games that started with Aghia Paraskevi on
March 29th. We wish them a good run.
Intramurals: The annual Relay Marathon is coming up on Wednesday, April 10th. Don’t miss the chance to participate as either a
member of a team or as an individual runner and get your commemorative T-shirt. 3x3 co-ed Volleyball tournament is coming up
on Thursday, April 11th. Put your teams together and register them at the Office of Athletics. 3x3 and 5x5 Beach Volleyball

experience. It will be repeated on Saturday, April 27th – sign up early! Andros island Hiking & Camping trip. Join us on the
weekend of June 1-2 for what will surely be the highlight of the program. Mark the dates and sign up early. Scuba diving trip

STUDENT ACADEMIC SERVICES WORKSHOP: MOTIVATION
Student Academic Services is offering a workshop on "Motivation". It is interesting as it addresses the motives and incentives of doing
college study and is relevant to all students, but primarily freshmen. It will involve both an instructor facilitator (Dr. M. Canellopoulou)
and a student facilitator (Apollonia Orphanopoulou). The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 04/09 at 13:30 (AH) in room 701.
