WHAT’S UP @ DEREE Volume 2, Issue 25—April 8, 2013 ITION D E N O H T A THE BIKE- On April 6, Dimitris Politis (DEREE ’90), started his epic, 800 km bicycle ride from Thessaloniki through Ioannina and Patras to our beautiful campus in Aghia Paraskevi, where he will arrive on April 11. Dimitris is taking a week off from his family and his banking position in Switzerland, and will pay for all expenses for this Bike-A-Thon out of his own pocket, in order to help us raise money for scholarships for students of The American College of Greece, at a time when demand for financial aid is skyrocketing, due to the deep crisis afflicting Greece. As Dimitris has said repeatedly, he is doing this because he wants young people to enjoy the quality education and opportunities that DEREE afforded him. It is in this spirit that I call upon all of you to contribute to this effort by visiting www.acg.edu/bikeathon or making a gift of any size – online at www.acg.edu/payments . It is really easy, and it will make a BIG difference in a young person’s life. We have already raised over € 8,000 through hundreds of individual contributions and the sale of lottery tickets. Now we hope that the ACG community, especially faculty and staff, will embrace this effort and help young men and women join the ranks of ACG graduates. Thank you for your consideration and support of this important endeavor! For updates about Dimitris’ trip, videos and photos keep logging on to www.acg.edu/bikeathon over the next few days.
