THE MEANING (“Learner”) Look; Led; Listen; Look like the master Christ’s disciples are those who draw near to Him to seek after truth and, sitting at His Feet, learn from the unfolding of His lessons, the ways and the will of God for them and to become more like Him in attitude, action and words. C. THE MARKS The word blessed means “O the bliss!” or “to be envied, to be congratulated” 1. Admit your Helplessness (“O the bliss of those who feel inadequate”) One who is totally aware of his need for God– apart from Him you are nothing. 2. Agonize over your Hamartia (“O the bliss of the penitent”) Used 221 times in the N.T. (“To miss the mark”) It is a grief that comes from the depths, “Oh God I have hurt You and I have hurt others. Showing mercy to others includes both the forgiveness of the sinner and compassion for the suffering and the needy. 6. Acceptance of HURT and Hostility (“O the bliss of the sufferer for Christ”) Do I embrace poverty of spirit or do I flee from it? Have I wept over my sin? And the brokenness of the world? Am I willing to let go my privileges, rights and preferences? Do I long for God to make all things new? Do I show empathy and sympathy for others? Am I striving for clean hands and a pure heart? What are the inner divisions of my life and how am I seeking to make them whole? Am I taking risks for God?
