Our goal is to use computational science as a focus for developing strong interdisciplinary, integrative research activities and research-based educational training that enhances the existing undergraduate and graduate programs at NCCU, and to establish an infrastructure and level of student participation suitable to justify, both in student quality and quantity, the future establishment of Ph.D. programs, thus expanding the University’s ability to increase minority representation in the sciences. The Research Assistant Professor will perform experimental and computational nanotechnology research needed for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Center of Research Excellence, Computational Center for Fundamental and Applied Research and Education and NASA University Research Center, Center for Aerospace Device and Education. This is a long term project, which started in 2005 and has been continuing since that time. The research project is the central research project at NASA and NSF research centers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Research Assistant Professor will: 1) 2) 3) 4) perform experimental and computational research in nanotechnology; develop computer programs for calculation of nanostructures properties; perform experiments on metallic nanoparticles structure; study different metallic nanoparticle systems relevant for development of monochromatic optical filters and for improvement of photovoltaic cells; 5) collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of faculty, research staff, and graduate students on ongoing research and in developing new research initiatives; 6) collaboration on ongoing research projects; 7) collaboration on development of research concepts for submission sponsors; and supervise graduate students’ master thesis research.
