Please Report Dead Marine Animals 2012 2016 Above are Atlantic sturgeon severed by the Tidal Turbine at Annapolis Royal. Fish kills have occurred there every year since turbine operation began in 1985. A similar Tidal Turbine was deployed in Minas Passage on November 8, 2016. Fish and marine mammals will be maimed or killed by this turbine if struck by a turbine blade. Most of these dead animals will fall to the bottom or float to the surface and be eaten by scavengers such as seagulls, but large animals like salmon, shad, striped bass, sturgeon, sharks, porpoises, seals and whales will occasionally drift to shore or be found floating in Minas Basin, Minas Passage or the Bay of Fundy. Please notify Fundy United Federation if you see any dead marine animals. If you find one: please secure it by tying to a rock or log and if possible take a picture. Notify us as soon as you can. We wish to document and autopsy any kills. If the animal is small enough, and you can freeze it, please do so and call us for collection.
