Did you know?
1. One person starts the story:
“Grandma’s going on a trip, and in her suitcase she has…” Say
something you would put in a suitcase – this can be real or
silly!
For example, “Grandma’s going on a trip, and in her suitcase
she has pajamas.”
2. The next person starts the story again, repeats what the first
person says, then adds another item.
For example, “Grandma’s going on a trip, and in her suitcase
she has pajamas, and a teddy bear.”
“Grandma’s going on a trip, and in her suitcase she has
pajamas, a teddy bear, and a toothbrush.”
3. Keep taking turns, making a longer list each time of what’s in
Grandma’s suitcase!
***This game can also be played using a different story
starter, such as “We’re going on a picnic, and in our basket we
have…”
***For older children, make it more challenging by adding
items in alphabetical order. (Ex: Grandma’s going on a trip,
and in her suitcase she has an apple, a ball, her cat, diamonds,
etc.)
Or, play this game by saying only things that start with the
first letter of your name.
Playing “Grandma’s
Suitcase” is a great
way to improve
memory, and
develop language
skills. Even parents
can work on their
memory skills with
this game!
