Territory Changes in Southwest Asia
The Mandate System after the fall of the Ottoman Empire
Quick Background: The Ottoman Empire falls during the time of WWI. Instead of
the people of the region getting their independence, the British and the French
work with the United Nations to form mandates in many of the old territories of
the Ottoman Empire. These mandates were effectively under the control of
British and the French even though they were considered their own countries.
The majority of what was the heart of former Ottoman territory becomes Turkey,
an independent country.
