Welcome to the Monroe Township Spring 2013 Community Education
Program. Our Classes are open to local residents and Community members
of surrounding areas who are interested in broadening their educational and
leisure time interests and obtaining new skills.
The goal of our program is to provide diverse learning opportunities designed
to meet the needs of every member of our Community. We invite you to
become involved during this session – bring a friend and enjoy a night out!
Special thanks go out to those members of the Board of Education,
Administration, Staff, Volunteers, and Community who contribute to the
success of this program. Without this collaboration we would not be able to
offer such tremendous alternatives to sitting home – uninvolved!

night out. Develop poise, grace, coordination and self-assurance while having fun learning
the basics of Foxtrot, Rhumba, Cha Cha and Swing. Proper leading, following footwork
techniques are stressed. Learn the steps and etiquette of formal dance to make your evening
truly memorable. Partners are preferred, but not required. Please wear low-heeled shoes that

Have you ever seen Country Line Dancing and wondered what it is or seen it and just wished
you could do it? Or maybe you’ve been dancing but wanted to learn more. This is the class
for you. Come join Harry Westervelt and Gail Young-Leach, of the The Silver Spurs, to
learn the hot new dances and classic dances that will get you on the dance floor no matter
where you go to dance. Line dancing is probably the most socially rewarding experience you
can have. It’s about lots of likeminded people getting together having fun and learning new

on how to be a successful pastel artist. Salomon Kadoche was born in Casablanca, Morocco
and has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft and producing quality work. Now settled
in Monroe, he explores undiscovered places in the Garden State and continues to produce

to create one-of-a-kind projects. More advanced students will develop skills at the potter’s

David Aaron, a professional clarinetist and bandleader, will present the history of Motown
Music featuring the artists who recorded the music with videos of their performances.

The following four classes will be presented by Jessica Sibelman, a composer and
clarinetist who has performed and had her works performed throughout the east coast
at venues including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer and Alice
Tully Halls. She recently was invited to be on the faculty at the 92 Street Y Tribeca, where
she will be teaching Music Appreciation and Music Theory. Miss Sibelman will guide
you through different forms and styles of music as you learn to pick out instruments in
the orchestra, and even discover the basics of conducting. All ages are welcome and
no music/music reading knowledge is needed – this is all about getting a feel for what
conductors really do! All classes will be interactive, thought provoking and a blast!

currently a partner at Senior Technology Associates, LLC, will begin this class by introducing
you to the basic functions and nuances of Microsoft 2007-2010, the world’s most popular
word-processing program. The class will review and discuss the major differences between
Word 2007/2010 and prior versions (Word 97-Word 2003). The class will cover just about

Spring Calendar - Tuesday classes will begin on March 19, 2013 and Thursday classes begin on March 21, 2013
Registration Questions – Please call 732-521-2111 ext. 5248 between 9:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
Enrollment – Register by mail as soon as you view this brochure. Feel free to share brochure using our
website at www.monroe.k12.nj.us and click onto the information tab and go into Community Education. Mail-in
registration continues until the beginning of each class, but don’t leave it until the last minute. YOUR registration could make the difference between having enough student enrollment to run the class or canceling due to_
insufficient registration.You can assume that you are in the class of your choice unless you hear from us. Registration will not be acknowledged unless the class is cancelled.
REGISTRATION WALK-INS AT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.
Eligibility – All adults and students under 18 years of age accompanied by an adult, regardless of residence are
welcome in the Community Education Program.
Discounts – A five dollar ($5.00) senior discount is offered to those 60 years and older, as well as any employee
of the Monroe Township Board of Education. Please note: there are no discounts on any $8 course.
Materials Fees –Must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class. Cash is preferred.
Returned Checks – A $40 fee will be imposed for checks returned unpaid by the bank.
Refund and withdrawal – We will refund course fee if we cancel a class. All withdrawals within one week
(7 days) prior to the class start will receive a refund minus a $8 processing fee. No refunds or credits will be
granted when you withdraw from a one night class with a $8 fee.
Sites and Room Assignments – Most classes are at the New Monroe Township High School on 200 Schoolhouse Road unless otherwise noted in the course description. Room assignments will be posted at receptionist desk.
Changes – This program reserves the right to cancel courses, change times, locations and instructors.
Make-up Classes – Every effort will be made to reschedule classes cancelled because of weather or other
emergencies.
Emergency Closings – If schools have been closed during the day community education classes will also be
cancelled. If inclement weather conditions become severe late in the day listen to WCTC (1450 AM) between
3:00 and 7:00 p.m.
