The Analytical X-ray Company
VeOS
Versatile and flexible
OBLF’s VeOS is the most versatile and flexible instrument for solid metal analysis.
The VeOS is a state-of-the-art solid-state detector spectrometer. The versatile
stationary laboratory optical emission instrument fulfills all analytical demands
for accurate production control. Its flexibility in generation of analytical programs
makes it the ideal tool for application in metals research.
Solid-state detector technology
The VeOS charge transfer device
(CTD) detectors are a combination of
the advantages of CCD technology
and CMOS sensor technology and a
dedicated design for the analytical
application. The complete range
of more than 30,000 pixels cover
the spectral range of 128 - 680 nm,
enabling the analysis of virtually all
relevant elements in metals.
Software automatically identifies the
peaks, dedicated algorithms defined
in each analytical program calculate
the relevant channel intensities for
quantitative analysis.
Optics and readout system
The setup is in a Rowland circle configuration with multiple sensor arrays. The focal
length and grating selection are optimized for the best performance in spectral
resolution. The pixel height is equivalent to the physical height of the emission
lines leading to ultra-high sensitivity.
The individual photosensitive pixels
are located on an integrated circuit
and the generated charge packets are
read out by a dedicated microprocessor
using a fast, low-noise, 16 bit AD
converter. A wide range of electronic
measures ensures the best reduction of
background processing of the signals
from the individual pixels.
Spark stand
VeOS uses the OBLF patented selfcleaning spark stand resulting in a high
availability and low memory effects.
The spark stand is designed for highest
spark repetition rates resulting in low
analysis time.
Coolant
The sensors and electronics located
inside the measuring chamber of the
VeOS are cooled down to lower the
electronic noise and improve the signalto-background ratio. The coolant used
in the VeOS can be easily filled by the
operator while there are no special
requirements for the coolant applied:
normal anti-freeze as used for cars can
be used in the VeOS.
GDS III spark
generator
The VeOS gated digital source GDS III
can generate versatile spark discharge
curves which can be optimized for each
application.
PANalytical and OBLF
PANalytical expertise
For the analytical support of OBLF
spectrometers, PANalytical application
specialists are in-place to assist the
customers. In case more detailed
expertise would be required, the
application specialists from OBLF are
able to provide further support.
Factory pre-calibration
All OBLF instruments are calibrated
in the OBLF factory according to the
customer specifications using the
standards required. On special request,
standards supplied by the customers can
be integrated into the calibration. The
calibration of the instruments is done
under the supervision of the application
specialists so it fulfills the customer
requirements. Re-calibration samples
required for the on-site update come
with the spectrometers.
PANalytical support
All OBLF spectrometers are supported
by the (local) PANalytical customer
support organisation. PANalytical
engineers are fully trained on the
OBLF spectrometers.
Next to telephone support, the
PANalytical engineers can also remote
log in to the instrument computer for
diagnosis.
Availability of parts
PANalytical stocks spare parts and
consumables for the OBLF spectrometers. As supply of spare parts is
fully integrated into the PANalytical
infrastructure, customers of the timecritical metals industry are assured with
fast support.

Quality, ‘made in Germany’
The OBLF spectrometers are completely
in-house designed, engineered and
assembled. All critical parts are provided
by (mostly German) suppliers under
strict quality assurance procedures and
undergo a thorough inspection before
being mounted into the systems. New
developments are first extensively tested
by the OBLF product and application
specialists to prove their improvements
for the customers.
