NDOW/FDB Big Game Water Development Project Meadow Valley Range – Meadow Valley #1 (Billy V) February 25th 2017 The Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn and the Nevada Department of Wildlife will be replacing the tanks and Drinker at the Meadow Valley #1 (Billy V) Guzzler located in hunt unit 243, in the Meadow Valley Range North of Las Vegas, on Saturday February 25th 2017. This activity will entail the removal of old damaged tanks and the implementation of new ones. Please arrive at the helicopter staging area at 7:00 am for volunteer registration and a safety briefing. We will then caravan up to the guzzler itself. Carpooling is encouraged as parking will be limited. A high clearance, 4wd vehicle is recommended to reach the guzzler. All construction materials and equipment will be provided, but volunteers are responsible for bringing personal gear (e.g., work gloves, sturdy boots, sunglasses, sunscreen, food, water, ect.). Head North out of town on I-15 2. Take exit 64 for US-93 north towards Pioche/Ely 3. Turn left onto US-93 North . Follow for 64 miles 4. Turn right onto Kane Springs road, a maintained dirt road. Follow for 2.7 miles 5. Turn right on a sort of paved road (Old highway 93), after about 0.3 miles you will come to a gate, the gate will be open to drive through. WARNING, do not speed on this highway there are washed out portions where driving around will be necessary. Follow this road for 3.3 miles to arrive at the staging area 6. Turn left onto a two-track dirt road a high clearance vehicle is required beyond this point. Follow this road for 3.8 miles. 7. Take the right fork and continue 0.9 miles to park. Walk the last 0.1 miles to the guzzler Please park away from the guzzler to ensure the helicopter has a safe place to operate. Driving directions and recommendations (From Alamo: see map) 1. Head south on US-93. Follow for 31.1 miles from the Sinclair gas station in Alamo 2. Turn left on Kane Springs road maintained dirt road. Follow for 2.7 miles 3. Turn right on a sort of paved road (Old highway 93), after about 0.3 miles you will come to a gate, the gate will be open to drive through. WARNING, do not speed on this highway there are washed out portions where driving around will be necessary. Follow this road for 3.3 miles to arrive at the staging area 4. Camping Dispersed Camping is provided on BLM lands located off of Kane springs road. No amenities are provided. 1. Follow the directions to Kane springs road. Follow Kane Springs road for 2.7 2. Turn left on a sort of paved road (Old highway 93). Follow for 0.2 miles to a large, flat denuded area. This map shows the last step to reach the Billy V Guzzler site. The Old Meadow Valley Guzzler will be visible on your right please look for a place to park nearby it.
