The Department of Pediatrics has a strong history of clinical care, resident and medical student education and research. Clinicians treat patients primarily in the Pediatric Inpatient Unit and PICU at John Sealy Hospital and in our Island and mainland clinics. Established in 1924, UTMB is home to the first pediatric residency training program in Texas. Our faculty participate in the education of medical students, residents, and subspecialty fellows. The goals of the pediatric experiences in medical school are for students to develop both the basic skills for caring for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as to appreciate the influence of growth and development on diagnosis and management of illness. Scale models of production platforms, actual drill bits and remotelyoperated vehicles (ROVs) as well as videos and exhibits explain drilling, geology, seismic, well servicing, and production.This event is complimentary to all attendees and their immediate family members.
