Earth /Space Science Lesson Plans
Unit 4 : Earth’s Surface (4 weeks)
Week of : 11-14-18-16
2nd 9 weeks
Benchmark (REG/ ADV): SC.7.E.6.2 (AA):Identify the patterns within the rock cycle and relate
them to surface events (weathering and erosion) and sub-surface events (plate tectonics and mountain
building). SC.6.E.6.1 :Describe and give examples of ways in which Earth's surface is built up and torn
down by physical and chemical weathering, erosion, and deposition. SC.6.E.6.2 :Recognize that there are
a variety of different landforms on Earth's surface such as coastlines, dunes, rivers, mountains, glaciers,
deltas, and lakes and relate these landforms as they apply to Florida. SC.7.E.6.6: Identify the impact that
humans have had on Earth, such as deforestation, urbanization, desertification, erosion, air and water
quality, changing the flow of water.
Learning Goals:
(1) Differentiate between mechanical and chemical weathering and its effects.
(2) Identify ways in which erosion tears down and builds up Earth’s surface.
(3) Recognize that there are many types of landforms on Earth.
Objectives:(1) Students will differentiate between mechanical and chemical weathering.
ESE / ESOL Modifications Guide:
1. Context clues, Gestures
6. Adjusted Assignment
2. Multi-media
7. Hands-on Experience
3. Linguistic Modeling, Restate
8. Visual Aids
4. Individual Instruction
9. Alternate Assessment
5. Peer Tutoring
10. Adapt Materials
ESOL/ESE Modifications: 1,2,5,7,8

Assessments:
PreAssessment: Learning Goal Self Assessment- Unit four; Pre
Test- Agree/Disagree
Formative Assessment: bell ringer sheet summaries; Thinking
Maps; Plickers;Zip Grade (data collected); Kahoot! review
(data collected)
Summative Assessment: Unit Quiz; 4 1/2 week exam
End product: Landform brochure
(2) Students will show mastery of nine weeks concepts taught through the first
half of the nine weeks.
(3) Students will differentiate weathering from erosion.
(4) Students will identify common landforms and discuss which are found in Florida.
(5) Students will research a landform found in Florida and produce a brochure about it.
Essential Question(s):
(1) How would the Earth be impacted if there were no rock cycle?
(2) How can the processes of erosion and weathering be both positive and negative?
(3) Report how human activities deliberately and /or inadvertently change Earth’s surface.
HOQ:
1. What factors affect weathering rates?
2. How do chemical processes change rocks?
