The Salt Shaker FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH NEAR ELY 11100 Spanish Road, Ely, Iowa 52227 Summer Worship Schedule June 1: My Country Tis of Thee, John 17:1-11 June 8, Pentecost: Holy Communion: Useful and Un-useful Body Parts, 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13 June 15, Father’s Day: Hazardous: Do Not Enter, Matthew 28: 16-20 June 22: Extinction or Resurrection, Romans 6:1b -11, Vacation Bible School Sunday #1 June 29: Baldness, Matthew 10:24-39 July 6: Selfies, Romans 7:15-25a July 13: Vacation Bible School Sunday #2 July 20: Guest worship leader: Herb Isenberg From the Pastor’s Keyboard About three times a year we have five Sundays in a month. June is one of those months. On those fifth Sundays, we gather our coins out of our pockets, purses, and coin jars at home and bring them to church to put into tin cans for the noisy can offering. Then they are used for a variety of Congregational Cares in financial gifts for times of financial stress by congregation members. In recent years, Congregational Cares has given gifts to families unable to pay their rent, experiencing fire and storm, feeling the pressure of being between jobs, or economic difficulty due to medical conditions. The small coins that we bring combine together to show those in our church family that we are with them. The small coins remind all of us that we are compassionate, kind people showing the grace and love of Jesus. They may be token financial gifts, but they are meaningful. May you find meaning in the small things that you do in your day. May you discover that your integrity and your kindness guide your decisions. J U NE - J U LY 20 14 May you be open to doing small acts of kindness that may not be your norm, but, may draw you closer to the Creator of kindness and compassion.
