LOGO

BACKGROUND TO K2C LOGO DESIGN
The logo for the K2C Biosphere Region
comprises
three
mopani
leaves
(Colophospermum mopane). This tree is only
found in specific areas in central Africa, and is
the only universally representative species of the
lowveld. However it has regional value and has
therefore been used in our logo.
Monotone
The two leaflets, compound leaves, on each of
the three leaves used in the logo, have been
arranged so that the space between the leaflets
creates an image of a human - thus symbolising
a person surrounded by their environment (the
leaves and the spaces beyond). Secondly the
three leaves represent the three main functions
of
a
biosphere
region:
Conservation,
Development and Logistics. Thirdly, the mopani
leaves represent the value of the environment to
humans and other animals, especially when
used sustainably. The leaves and pods are a
valuable food source to both domestic cattle and
wild animals, often being one of the few plants
with browse still available in the dryer months.
Large caterpillars of the moth, Gonimbrasia
belina, feed on the mopani leaves. These
caterpillars are highly sought after by local
communities as a protein supplement. The
caterpillars are collected when abundant and
dried and stored for the months to come. Lastly
the three leaves also represent the three biomes
encompassed by the Biosphere Reserve; the
Grassland, Forest and Savanna.

All versions of the logo in jpeg format will be supplied to the current board and operational unit.

MISCELLANEOUS & ADDITIONAL CREATIVE ELEMENTS§
§
The circular creative elements are to be used as primary options in design and document layouts
MISCELLANEOUS & ADDITIONAL CREATIVE ELEMENTS – INVERSED VERSIONS**
**
The inversed creative element designs are only to be used when design features do not allow for the primary
circular version. The inversed options are preferably to be used in a lightler hue or watermark aspect.
SOCIAL MEDIA ELEMENTS
Insertion of Photographs
General Individual Photos
The use of photographs should be standard within all reports and proposals produced in Microsoft
word or similar programs.
Three options are given below and either may be selected depending on the style of the document
as well as the target market. It is important however, that a single style should be employed
throughout an entire document. The Three Options are:
Thin White Frame
Drop Shadow
Minor Reflection
All three of these options can be found in the Picture Effects section of Word.
K2C Photo Banner
The following Banner is currently used as a Primary Creative Element in the Website and Letterhead
and it is recommended to remain as such for now. The Photo banner has previously been created
to incorporate some of the manner different elements involved in the MaB Programme and its
relative principles such as Research, Agriculture, Community Development Conservation, Water
Management etc.
Should a revised banner be required and need to be established, it is
recommended the similar principles be implemented in the selection of photo variations.
The Photo Banner has also been designed to incorporate the Vision or By-line of the K2C – ie
“Partnering to achieve a sustainable future for all life in the K2C Biosphere”

Presentation Layouts x 3
In order to ensure unified and coordinated communications occur during presentations, it is
recommended that all presentations done for and on behalf of K2C are created on one of the
following 3 templates.
Three different templates have been produced in order to offer a variation and flexibility depending
on the theme of the presentation as well as the target audience
Previews of the Templates can be seen in Appendix 2, Appendix 3, Appendix 4 and Appendix 5.
Proposals/ Reports x 3
Three alternative layouts have been put together to allow for flexibility and choice depending on the
type of document being produced, its target market and theme behind the document’s
development.
Previews of the three templates can be seen in Appendix 6, Appendix 7 and Appendix 9
