Take your barbeque to a whole new culinary
level this summer by creating a gourmet burger bar right in your very own backyard. There
are few dishes as versatile as the hamburger,
so be inventive with your menu and have fun!
Here are a few tips to get you started:
• Add a summery twist to a chilled pitcher of
Longo’s Signature Organic Sodas by preparing pretty cups filled with mint leaves allowing
guests to pour their own refreshing beverage.
For the kids, include a few mint-free cups filled
with ice.
• Craft your own fresh and tasty ingredients that
can be eaten as toppings or sides. Coleslaw,
avocado, cheese sauce and spicy salsa are a
few of our favourites.
• Serve freshly grilled burgers on a platter and

triple overtime burger
For a long summer game this beefy burger
will keep you full, and long after overtime
you’ll be craving those tasty flavours.
Grand River
Plowman’s Ale
Pairing: There’s nothing quite like a
classic barbecued beef burger and a
bottle of amber ale. The addition of
three kinds of cured pork and cheddar cheese just makes the experience
that much better. For this monster of a
burger, try the big, bold, spicy Grand
River Plowman’s Ale from Cambridge,
ON. But whatever beer you choose to
drink, remember to use that same beer
in the Cheddar Beer Sauce to create
the perfect pairing of beer and burger.
(Available at the LCBO.)

Spicy Indian flavours in this burger are cooled
down with a creamy cucumber raita topping.
Fresh cheese and tomatoes make a great
topping for this chicken burger.
A bar classic, buffalo wings are boneless and
grilled up in this zippy burger.
Celebrate Ontario this summer with this fabulous
Ontario pork burger and toppings.
This burger is lighter than most without
the traditional bread bun.
Duggan’s #9
IPA
Pairing: There is no better complement to curry than India Pale Ale. If you
haven’t tried this beer yet, you must try
the Duggan’s #9 IPA. Sadly Duggan’s
Brew Pub has closed its doors, but we
can still enjoy the #9 by the backyard
barbeque or at Corks Beer and Wine
Bar in Longo’s Maple Leaf Square.
(Available at the LCBO.)
Old Credit
Amber Ale
Pairing: With all the elements of a
satisfying Mexican meal and then some,
this burger calls for a refreshing beer
with serious personality. Try the Old
Credit Amber Ale from Port Credit, a
dark amber, peppery beer with spicy
aromas and a citrusy fi nish. (Available at
the LCBO.)

King Pilsner
Pairing: This burger take on wing night
can be served with exactly the same
beer you would enjoy with a plate of
spicy buffalo wings, veggies and blue
cheese dressing: Pilsner. The crisp,
refreshing bite of a good Pilsner softens
the heat of wing sauce while cutting
through the creaminess of the two
cheeses. An excellent option is the King
Pilsner from Nobleton, ON. (Available at
the LCBO and The Beer Store.)
The Beau’s Lug
Tread Lagered
Ale
Pairing: With the Great Canadian Burger you have two options: cut through
the sweetness and the smoke with a
fresh, crisp lager, or complement these
elements with a blood-warming ale. I
choose both. The Beau’s Lug Tread Lagered Ale from Van Kleek Hill is brewed
in the German Kolsch style – warm
fermentation followed by cold conditioning – producing a crisp, smooth beer
with a subtly hoppy finish. (Available at
the LCBO.)
Denison’s
Weissbier
Pairing: We know summer is upon
us when the wheat beers start appearing on the LCBO and Beer Store
shelves and on tap at our favourite
pubs. Wheat beer just happens to be a
perfect accompaniment for both salmon
and citrus. Try this burger with Denison’s Weissbier, an award-winning unfi
ltered wheat beer featuring fl avours of
banana, vanilla and cloves. (Available at
the LCBO.)
