Baby Boomers1BANKING
by Sherry Gibbon Community Relations Manager
When you hear the term “Baby Boomer,”
you may wonder in what year you would
have been born to be considered among that
demographic?
I googled “Baby Boomer” on the Internet and found this
definition, “Baby Boomers are the demographic group born
during the post-World War II baby boom, approximately
between the years 1946 and 1964. This includes people between
53 and 71 years of age in 2017,” according to the U.S. Census
Bureau. Therefore, approximately 75.4 million individuals, or
28 percent of the population, fall into this category.
It also states that, “Baby Boomers control more than 80 percent
of personal financial assets and more than half of all consumer
spending. They buy 77 percent of all prescription drugs, 61
percent of all over-the-counter drugs, and
account for 80 percent of all
leisure travel.” Once we
understand the financial
strength of Baby Boomers
we should focus on how
these individuals use
banking services and what
products they have. While
this generation still enjoys
the face-to-face contact with
their banker, they also take
advantage of the banking
technology that is offered.
they can because of the flexibility it gives them. However, they
may be not as eager to use mobile banking - “just 18 percent of
Baby Boomers over the age of 61 use mobile banking,” according
to the American Bankers Association Foundation. One way
to learn more about mobile banking is to build a relationship
with your banker to understand the benefits of having banking
at your fingertips. Take advantage of the services available,
such as alerts of low balances, deposits being made, suspected
fraudulent activity, or even notification of special bank events
being offered. Mobile banking gives you the freedom of on-thego banking and the convenience of having your information
available to you anytime, anywhere.
Security on digital devices remain a primary concern of Baby
Boomers with their banking. Texas Bank and Trust uses
encryption technology to provide an added level of security for
our customers that use our mobile banking app. Once the app
is loaded on your device, a four (4) digit PIN is required and that
PIN is specific to the device. By using this type of banking, you
have your information with you at all times, wherever you are.
Are you enjoying the convenience
of TBT online banking services?
If you would like a demonstration of how
these mobile services work, please contact

TIPS TO AVOID
SKIMMERS
at the gas pump!
Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have identified a
large group of Cuban Nationals that have been added to the list of
other known gangs that are going throughout the country placing
electronic skimming devices inside gas pumps. The device can be installed in a matter of minutes and will record your
card and PIN number as the pump is being used. Within hours, your card
will be duplicated and used fraudulently to acquire money or products in
this organized criminal activity.

STAY CLOSE
TO THE STORE
Criminals prefer pumps
commonly sealed with brightly
colored tape. Ensure these seals
are unbroken before using!
CHOOSE "CREDIT"
further from human
contact, to help ensure
their own success.

CREDIT
are less likely to be

Use the CREDIT option, so only your
zip code is swiped versus your PIN.
CHECK YOUR BALANCE
Any suspected criminal activity on your account should be reported
immediately to authorities and your credit card company or bank.
