False River Academy Dual Enrollment 2016-2017 What is Dual Enrollment? • It refers to high school students taking college courses through a local college or university during the school day • Our dual enrollment is concurrent meaning credit hours are earned for both high school and college credit Southeastern Louisiana University Dual Enrollment Offerings Spanish I (DE)- Spanish III (HS Course)- pending Spanish II (DE)- Spanish III (HS Course)- pending Chemistry US History English III English IV ***Instructors- Sally Neal (English), Rachel Laiche (Spanish), Edith Atkinson (Chemistry), Jackie Knight (US History) Southeastern University Criteria & Requirements Criteria to Enroll in Southeastern Dual Enrollment Courses ALL students must have the following minimum criteria: 1. 2. 3. Students must be on track to complete the Core 4 curriculum with no developmental coursework required Be in the 11th or 12th grade Have an ACT or Pre-ACT composite ≥ 18 or ASPIRE composite ≥ 430 In addition to the minimum criteria above, students must also meet the following course-specific criteria in order to enroll in courses: 1. 2. 3. Students with an English sub-score ≥ 18 (ASPIRE ≥ 433) may enroll in: English, French, History, Industrial Technology, Music, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, Speech and TV production courses. Students with a Math sub-score ≥ 19 (ASPIRE ≥ 431) may enroll in: Chemistry, French, History, Industrial Technology, Math, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, Speech and TV production courses. Students must have an English sub-score ≥ 18 AND Math sub-score ≥ 19 in order to take Biology. Tuition and Additional Costs: 1. 2. 3. 4. There is no application fee for Southeastern’s Dual Enrollment program Textbooks are supplied at no cost to the high schools for dual enrollment courses for which a rental textbook has been adopted. Damaged or non-returned books will be charged to the student at full retail price. The high school may elect to charge the student for the book as books are individually assigned. Many courses require the use of a 3rd-party computer program. Prices vary from $20-$35 dollars with this cost being the responsibility of the student or high school. All courses, whether taught as a single-semester or year-long course, will be charged tuition at a discounted rate of $150 per 3-credit hours. This discounted tuition is NOT refundable should a student withdraw from a course. Spanish I & II Dual Enrollment Dual Enrollment Spanish at False River Academy will count as one year of elective credit as Spanish III on a student’s high school transcript. Simultaneously, the student will earn 6 hours of credit with Southeastern. • SPAN 101 – Elementary Spanish I- Credit 3 hours Prerequisite: Students must have completed high school level Spanish I and Spanish II with at least a B average at False River Academy or another high school • SPAN 102 – Elementary Spanish II- Credit 3 hours Prerequisite: Spanish 101 ***$150 per 3-credit hours Louisiana State University Dual Enrollment Offerings- College Algebra as the first semester of high school Advanced Math Trigonometry as the second semester of high school Advanced Math ***Instructor- Cheri Major Louisiana State University Criteria & Requirements Requirements for College Algebra (Fall Course)1. Student must have a minimum composite ACT score of 18 (ACT Aspire scores cannot be used) 2. Student must have a minimum composite MATH ACT score of 19 3. Student must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0 4. Cost for College Algebra Dual Enrollment is a $300 (non-refundable) Requirements for College Trigonometry (Spring Course)1. Student must have successfully completed College Algebra Dual Enrollment course or have a minimum composite MATH ACT score of 25 2. Cost for Trigonometry Dual Enrollment is $300 (non-refundable) ***Student will earn 3 hours of college credit per course ****LSU does not use ACT Aspire scores for determining eligibility NOTE: It is incumbent upon all students and parents to determine the transferability of Dual Enrollment courses to other institutions For more information, please reference website Southeastern Letter regarding Statewide Articulation Matrix How to Register for Dual Enrollment Once eligibility is determined: • Using ACT Aspire Scores 14-15 or • Using ACT Aspire Scores 15-16 (to be received the 1st week of August) or • Using ACT Scores (if your student tested in April or June of 2016, please bring a copy of scores) Students will be officially scheduled by Mrs. Edith Atkinson, Academic Dean- preliminary schduling will begin next week, July 11th-12th Payment for Southeastern University courses should be brought to Mrs. Edith Atkinson, room 107 on or before Friday, September 23, 2016.
