The Week of July 9th to July 13th Algebra I using the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition/TI-Nspire CX - This institute is for middle and high school teachers of pre-algebra and algebra I. Participants will use the TI84 Plus Silver Edition, the TI-Nspire CX, the CBL 2 and the CBR to explore pre-algebra and algebra I concepts and problems. Participants will leave with ready-made classroom materials suitable for algebra I and an understanding of the TI-technologies’ mathematical and pedagogical features along with methods for using these handhelds in the algebra I classroom. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: Fred Decovsky) Advanced Mathematics with the TI-Nspire CX CAS - This workshop will focus on pre-calculus and calculus topics using the TI-Nspire CX CAS. In addition to investigating various mathematical problems and the TI-Nspire Navigator System participants will also work with file management and the Teacher Edition Computer Software. Numerous classroom-ready activities and many TI-Nspire files will be presented. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: John Hanna) Statistics using the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition/TI-Nspire CX and Fathom - This workshop is designed to model hands-on lessons that will engage and build a strong understanding of statistics. Workshop participants will incorporate technology into model lessons and activities that develop the interactive and investigative aspects of data analysis. The strategies, lessons and activities will focus on building a successful introductory statistics class and an advanced placement statistics program. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: Beth Benzing) Integrating Multiple Technologies into the 7 – 10 Mathematics Classroom - Participants in this workshop will get “hands-on” experience with creatively incorporating the TI-Nspire CX, TI-Nspire Navigator, SMART Board, Fluid Math, and iPad technologies into their classroom. Participants will learn to utilize the latest version of the TI-Nspire CX handheld along with Teacher Software to teach middle school, algebra I and geometry, to find appropriate activities and to create their own activities. See how the TI-Nspire Navigator system works and how to integrate the many powers of SMART Board into the mathematics classroom, including how to make lessons available online in PDF and video formats. Also get a sneak peek at interactive math software Fluid Math and some math Apps for iPads. Obtain over 1000 teaching activities and ideas to take with you. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: Tom Reardon) The Week of July 16th to July 20th Connecting Algebra and Geometry using Tl Technology - The focus of this workshop is the exploration of geometry and algebra concepts using TI technology, including the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, the TI-Nspire CX family and the TI-Nspire Navigator System. Participants will investigate different teaching strategies and will have opportunities for hands-on experiences using a variety of algebra and geometry topics. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: Ray Klein) Algebra II using TI Technology - Participants in this institute will explore Algebra II topics using TI technology. The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, the TI-Nspire CX family, the CBL2 and the CBR will be utilized. Classroom management, instructional strategies, and technology tips including file management, collecting and sending files, data collection using the CBL2 and the CBR, online resources, and assessment will be explored. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: Daniel Ilaria) Updating your Teaching Toolbox for the Mathematics Classroom using Web Based Tools - This course will review current tools students and teachers can use in the mathematics classroom. Many of these tools are free and can be used both in and out of the classroom as a means to extend student learning beyond the typical school day. These include but are not limited to: web based polling, on line blogs, podcasts, cloud databases and various on-line survey tools. These tools will be explored in the context of current math pedagogy that will bring a spark to some old lessons. Time will be designated for participants to gain a level of comfort with the tools of their choice. All tools will be presented with the middle and high school math classroom as a frame of reference by a current mathematics teacher that has used them in the classroom. (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (Instructor: Andrew Benzing) Integrating Multiple Technologies into the 9 – 12 Mathematics Classroom - Participants in this workshop will get “hands-on” experience with creatively incorporating the TI-Nspire CX, TI-Nspire Navigator, SMART Board, Fluid Math, and iPad technologies into their classrooms. Participants will learn to utilize the latest version of the TI-Nspire CX handheld along with Teacher Software to teach geometry, algebra II, pre-calculus & trig, and AP calculus, to find appropriate activities and to create their own activities. See how the TI-Nspire Navigator system works and how to integrate the many powers of SMART Board into the mathematics classroom, including how to make lessons available online in PDF and video formats.
