What are the charms of the world region that we know as ‘Slavic’ – that is, Central & Eastern Europe and the Balkans? The UvA’s Slavonic Department hosts an events series where writers, artists, directors, and curators take you on a journey across literature, art, film & politics from the region. The delights they share are bittersweet: in, say, Russia or Serbia, art and politics interact in moves that are intriguing – but rarely sugary. ‘Slavic Delights’ monitors creative life in a turbulent region – one that, with its combination of power states and fresh EU nations, merits a solid dose of our attention. ‘Slavic Delights’ are part of the Nederland-Ruslandjaar 2013 & are free – but come early to claim a seat.
