The Cadet (ages 14-20 years of age) will learn the “day-to-day” functions of a Police Officer while attending the three week (105 hour) Explorer Program Course Academy. All Cadets will receive instruction and are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Officer Safety Patrol Procedures Officer Code of Ethics Leadership Traffic Control City Geography Traffic Stop Procedures Fingerprinting Crime Scene Photography Crime Scene Investigation Dispatch and Radio Etiquette Teamwork, and much more Attendance during the program is strictly enforced, and each Cadet will be required to maintain monthly training hours after graduating the Academy. Outstanding moral, ethical, and professional behavior is mandatory while the Cadet represents the Copperas Cove Police Department and the City of Copperas Cove. Every Cadet shall act as a positive role model to the citizens of Copperas Cove, both on and off “duty”. The Explorer Program is a great opportunity for our Cadets to begin a strong foundation for a career in criminal justice and will assist them in becoming successful and productive members of society. The Copperas Cove Police Department firmly believes that with hard work, due diligence, compassion, and understanding, you can contribute towards keeping the City of Copperas Cove a safer and more enjoyable community. Cadets are required to submit registration fees as well as additional fees for traveling to regional and state competitions.
