When Should I Ask For Antibiotics?
When you’re feeling achy, tired, and
just downright miserable a quick fix
sounds like the perfect thing.
Unfortunately, antibiotics do not work
for many conditions; specifically viral
illnesses that cause things like colds,
the flu, sore throats and some ear
infections.
“If a virus is making you
sick, taking antibiotics may
do more harm than good.
Each time you take
antibiotics, you increase the
chances that bacteria in
your body will be able to
resist them. Later, you
could get or spread an
infection that those
antibiotics cannot cure”
Antimicrobial resistance.
Antimicrobial resistance has started to
occur more frequently because the
drugs used to kill those microorganisms have been used for decades,
and some of the micro-organisms have
started to adapt and change but the
drugs we use are still the same. So, it’s
important to only use antibiotics with
illnesses caused by bacteria, fungi, or
certain parasites.

The reason?
How can I tell the difference?
That’s the tricky part! Often the
symptoms of viruses and bacterial
infection are very similar.
The best route is to talk to your
healthcare provider. However, below
